Our team has been incredible after a very slow start, while working hard to maintain first place. In the past ten games we have only played 500 ball and although enjoying a 10 and 2 record against the Yankees it shows very little in the overall standings. The fact is, our starters have put us behind early and the offense has struggled to keep up. We can't blame Josh because he has pitched so much better this season than his record indicates. We also can't blame strong opposing pitching because that's just an excuse. Our staff is as good or better, yet opposing teams have hit us better than we have theirs.
This post isn't meant to bash our 1rst place team because nobody is more proud of what we have accomplished, just simply an observation from a die hard Sox fan. With three games coming up against Tampa at home, it would be a perfect time to go on a nice streak before the PS.

Theo probably gave Tito the green light to play for the wild*card (again), why win a divson title when you can take the wild*card with less effort. -

We want them to win series they should win.Try getting up aganist the losing teams,not just aganist the good teams. -

Just to play better than 500 ball, we are so much better and it won't win our division. When we get a couple games up on the Yanks, we then to slip into mediocrity. This upcoming series would be a good time to prove how good we really are. -

They are prepping for the play-offs. Even in a 1-0 game where our starter might be rolling they will pull him after 6... and jeapordize the win to a bull-pen. Infileders, and outfielders will get even more time off.The team has been doing this for years, its policy. Wild-card is a sense of accomplishment to the FO as much as winning the division is to the Yankees. -

It's a six-month season. You ebb and flow.
We should have swept Seattle, but it was the first series the Sox have lost in six weeks. No need to sell stock. -

Agreed Lloyd, my concern is how our team plays after moving up a couple games on the yanks. Grabbing home field advantage and not playing Texas in the first round in my opinion could be key to our PS success. -

I'm sure management would prefer any advantage we can get by coming in 1rst place. It's up to our team to show they really have the same goal and presently we don't have that kind of team effort. We need to go on a nice streak down the stretch so we have some momentum going, not just crawl into the PS -

I can certainly appreciate that Lioyd. The Rays in my opinion should be 12 games or more by now, right where they will be if we sweep them. I would be happy with winning two and we should condidering how well we have played AL East teams this season. With that said, it doesn't mean we should sleepwalk against teams like the Mariners. -

Well they got hungry and almost came back to win both yesterday and today. And also have some great comebacks this whole season.And it is a long season. -

The Rays are overrated, they do have good pitching but if you look at their Stats is not anything amazing. They are also ranked 25th out of 30 teams offensively. Some fans predicted them to hang around this season based on their pitching and overall easy schedule comparatively but they really are not that good. -

Longoria has been non-stellar this season and the Rays should have added a bat (big bat) and that alone would have kept them in the hunt, Toronto has played .500 most of the season to I think. -

Two days ago we were on a roll winning 7 out of 10. You would like to see the Sox take care of the Mariners but to Seattle's credit they were playing to win too. We'll be fine. -

Opposing teams have hit better....the BoSox lead the AL in runs scored!! What kind of question is "where is our hunger?"? You act like you can discern the level of effort based on the result. Ridiculous. -

Many times in today's game the Sox hit the ball solidly and deep but into outs. There will be days like that when you don't get the breaks. Seattle scored a few runs without even getting a hit early on. If we had won today, they would have won six out of ten which is just below their average. Lots of irrational panic and gloom here. Try to be more patient and optimistic. I realize that the forum thrives on negativity but doesn't it ever get boring to you with so many doing the Debbie Downer routine.
