Who Does Matt Garza Think He Is??

With his comments saying that he has kicked the crap out of the Red Sox year in & year out & saying why wouldn't the Red Sox go after the best the Cubs have ( meaning him ) in regards to the Theo compensation. He needs to get over himself. Although he is a respectable 7-4 lifetime against the Sox, hardly reason to spout off. Hope the Red Sox light him up in the series against the Cubs in June. -

Exactly correct, Garza was respectable, even good, but he kicked the crap out of no one. -

I seem to recall kicking the crap out of HIM the last several times he pitched. He hasn't been good against the Sox since 08, 09 or so. -

He might want to watch what he says. They're playing in Wrigley and he has to hit if he pitches. If he's pitching against Beckett or Lester, they can have "control issues" at times, especially if they're annoyed.

Who Does Matt Garza Think He Is??
A good pitcher lacking in social graces.
For what it's worth, Matt Garza made seven appearances against the Red Sox in 2010, going 2-2 with a 5.14 ERA, but registering his only career save:

Perhaps Garza was referring to the 2008 American League Championship Series against the Red Sox when the righthander went 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA, pitching seven innings of two-hit ball in winning the deciding Game 7:

My point exactly. He hasn't really been all that great lately, especially at the Trop. -

Matt Garza should watch himself on television. Seriously, how does this guy not see himself spitting all the time? I couldn't take it when he was with the Rays. -

I would not root for him here if he still spits seeds all game long on the mound, piggish. I always wanted to punch him in the face

although i hate matt garza, those numbers are misleading. he did own us. in just about every big game he pitched against us he was really good. games 3 and 7... -

he schooled us in game 7 for the pennant, i respect him for that...but i also want to hit him with a crowbar when he's on the mound - chewing like a cow, spitting like a llama, with all the social graces of a pig at a trough... -

Why worry about compensation? Bud is going to make the Cubs buy the Sox a fleet of new cars from his daughters car lot. -

His words are certainly inflammatory and pointed. But, with just an ounce of pop-psychology peeling back of the layers, it it pretty easy to see that his knee-jerk, in-yo-face comment about the Sox comes from the fact that, underneath his fantastic 2008 ALCS performances against the Sox and his brief cameo as "Sox Killer" is years of getting pounded by the Sox, and years of coming close to being a top-flight pitcher, if it wasn't for those darn outings against the Sox (and yankees) which exposed his lack of cool-headed pitchers mentality and his over-reliance on his stuff. He later harnessed his Young Turk fire into his game, and then became, for a brief spell, top flite. But, depsite the surface brashness of his recent remarks, i take it as a sign of respect, Garza-style. -

One good year turned him into Roy Halladay... I bet he goes back to his old form when he was with the Rays. He's nothing but an end of rotation guy with just below 4 ERA. And it makes me throw up when he spits... -

This guy has had 5 straight seasons with an ERA under 3.96.
We have a guy ( supposed to be an ace) named Josh Beckett who hasn't done this. It doesn't stop Josh from being arrogant.
I think Garza has earned the right to brag. Not that I think it's right, just that he does have stats to back it up. W/L is a team stat, look at ERA as a good way of judging a starter's effectiveness. Also his walk to strikeout ratio is very impressive throughout his career. -

Garza is a very confident guy which is exactly what we need. He respects no team and feels he can beat anyone. This has been proven time after time against the AL Easts best hitters. Thats what I take from the comments and the fact he would like to play in Boston if we wanted him, where he can finally compete at that level again.
A Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, Garza, Bard top five could be the best in baseball if Bard proves he can start. Throw in Dice later on and we have a staff. I would trade top prospects in a heartbeat for Garza. -

He is a good pitcher and I would love to have him on the Sox. I like his arrogance as well as his cockiness, it would fit in well on this team right now. -

No doubt AL, Garza is the kind of pitcher we need. The kind of guy you always hated when he pitched against us but would love to have and root for on our club.
