The Sox do have a higher ranked defense, while the Yanks have given up less runs.  The Sox are in first place as the two clubs are tied in the loss column and the Sox have played and won 1 more game than the Yanks.

excellent, so you do agree that the sox have better defense and that the sox are a first place team and the yankees are not.

The facts speak for themselves, the Sox have a better defense and they are currently in first place by .5 games.  The Yanks have scored more runs and allowed fewer.  Intelligent fans know this is a long way from over given how many times each team has leapfrogged the other.

who has claimed it is over?  Intelligent fans wouldn't make accusations with out any actual proof.

I wasn't directing that at you, I was just making a general statement.  The two teams have been back and forth for awhile now.  Its been a classic Yanks/Sox season sort of like 2003 and 2004.  The teams are really close and tempers are even flaring a bit like they did last night.
