How's this for simple math?
We need to make up 4 games with about 120 to go.
Is gaining one game every 30 really that tough? -

I'm sorry Moon, but I find that rather complex. -

In Response to Who has the courage to state publicly that this team will not make it to the playoffs?:I for one believe in this team and feel they will make it back to the World Series. But who on May 7th wants to throw in the towel and say the season is over with this team and this front office.? But remember this. Let history be your guide. Memories fade but let's turn back to the 2004 season. And take a look at Wikipedia: "But high expectations accompanied the acquisitions of Foulke and Schilling to bolster what was already a very good team. And while the team started well (15–6 in April), they were soon mired in a sort of malaise, playing well enough to stay above .500, but not in serious playoff contention. May opened with five straight losses, and the team went 55–52 in May–July. Some of the underperforming was because of the injuries to Nixon and Garciaparra (both of which lingered beyond expectations), Bill Mueller (who needed minor surgery during the season), and reliever Scott Williamson (who was pitching extremely well before his injury). Even the staff was not exempt, with first base coach Lynn Jones nearly losing an eye in an accident at home with a screwdriver. Some of the problem was the team’s porous defense, although many of the weakest defenders were players who’d been very good in that area in the past, such as Nomar. But injuries and defense alone didn’t account for how the team was playing, and the media began to search for targets, focusing largely on sulking shortstop Garciaparra and on manager Francona, who refused to publicly criticize his players. By July, much of the Boston media had given up on the team, which fell as far as 10 1/2 games behind the Yankees, and at one point was in danger of falling behind the surging Devil Rays and the Orioles in the division as well. There were calls for Francona’s ouster." How did the 2004 season end?

I still believe we could make the playoffs even with our inconsistecies if Theo makes a couple BIG PERSONAL MOVES. Aceves would probably be a better starter than Lackey, Dice or Wake if given the opportunity. I also have absolutely "0" confidence in our catchers.
We have a good team but due to age and loyalty to players like Tek and Wake we still have a couple huge holes to fill. -

the SOX will NOT make it to the playoffs.
HOWEVER, TITO and THEO will BOTH make it to the UNEMPLOYMENT LINE. -

Have you seen the names of other team's 24th and 25th players?
To think that we are losing because of VTek and Wake is a joke.
VTek:
Against our pitchers the opps have a ...
.607 OPS when VTek catches.
.798 OPS when Salty catches.
We are 9-6 in games Teks starts. We are 8-13 in games that Salty starts.
Wake:
As a reliever (in almost total mop up duty):
4 good/4 bad outtings
1.000 WHIP
As a starter:
1 great start/one horrible start.
6.30 ERA and 1.700 WHIP.
Overall:
5.73 1.318 WHIP
If Wake is to blame then why not mention these guys. If Wake was gone, we'd have seen more innings from some of these guys:
Wheeler 11.32 1.839
BJenks 9.35 2.538
Reyes 16.20 2.400
Atchsn 7.36 2.182
Doubrnt 6.75 2.250
Lackey, Buch and Oki also have higher WHIP. -

I didn't realize that tek pitches.
And you forgot to point out that when tek CATCHES you have a .453 OPS from the catching position.

moonslav, what are you and harness relatives to Tek? The guy sucks and yet you still compare 1rst and second year catchers in Boston like Salty and Victor to a guy with 12 plus years on the same team.
MANIPULATE NUMBERS AND TRY TO SWAY FANS ALL YOU WANT AND CERA ISN'T EVEN RECOGNIZED AS A TANGIBLE STAT BY ANYONE BUT YOU AND HARNESS. TEK IS HORRIBLE AT THINGS THAT MATTER MOST. -

The team was put together for the future as well as this year, so no panic. They could go on a tear and end up in first place over a 2-3 week period. It is definitely frustrating, we all know they are better than their record. But I also wouldn't want to play this team in the playoffs, they have the potential to explode at any time. The wild card will be there for the taking, if not the division.
AGon is a joy to watch, isn't he?

Tired of reading all this nonsence of 2004..... would of, could of, will be o.k.
Lest get it straight-there is NO life on this team. It's DEAD & the leadership
is not there to motivate this team to the next level. Francoma is exactly what
he is, limited with no aggessiveness and Baseball savey to elavate this
club to the next level. If it happens, it will happen because of individual pride,
NOT because of Francoma, because he goes with the flow & does not create
ANY excitment to win. Day in & day out the guy is a zombie!!! LOuV

That's great, but last I checked tek doesn't pitch.
You also left out the part about the sawx catching position having a .453 OPS when tek is behind the dish.
