I guess the short answer is Gomes, since he can't play defense. Wouldn't it be nice to have Vmart now? He could play 1B full time and Naps could DH. Perhaps we could make a deal with Detroit to get him back along with Porcello.
What would it take?
Who is going to DH?

We don't need VMart now or 2 years ago.
I'm also glad we got Barnes and Owens as comp picks for letting him walk.

Nava is better from the left side.
Maybe Gomez or Lavarnway.

I'd happily take VMart back any day.

I would rather take Barnes and Owens than 4 yrs - 1 yr of VMart.

Gomes is hitting .208 against Sabathia in 24 at bats Nava .286 with a HR. Easy choice

What is there to like? 34 y.o., missed 2012, has a .666 in ST, and is owed $25M.
And the fact that he can catch. Do you actually think that the ST OPS is reflective of his talent?
You are losing it JB.

Gee, I don't know, how about this career line:
.303 .370 .469 .840
And the fact that he can catch. Do you actually think that the ST OPS is reflective of his talent?

I wouldn't trade Carp for VMart and that salary, which would put us over the luxury tax limit. I might do Ellsbury and Carp for Porcello and VMart.

Plus, we already have two catchers.
And I don't pay too much attention to career numbers when players get old.
Still, if you want to spend $25M/2 for an aging DH, because our DH is going to miss 2 weeks, go with it.
You probably won't remember it, but I brought up the subject of trading for VMart back in November, before Napoli. My suggestion back then was that Detroit pick up $6M of his salary to make the deal even. $12.5M is way too high for a guy that just missed a full season of BB.
