I voted proxy for softy. The "salesman from Oakland" deserves a chance to unseat Jake again.

Jake is now one of the best lead-off hitters in the game.
Jake his no longer just a "slap" hitter.
    Jake is now an All-Star.

Someone posted today that he also has untapped raw power, and could be a big time HR guy (except FW is not conducive to LH power) soon.

He hits many dingers in BP. That was the allusion. So does Ichiro. So did Boggs.
Jake will never be a power hitter, but he is developing gap power.

Gap power is comparable to Obama making promises he hasn't kept. Everthing may seem good in the beginning, but the guilty just end up lying to the people. Bellsbury has no pop, and that is a fact.

No, its not a fact. Ichiro, Boggs and Ells can jack them out if needed..Thats NOT their job on this/their team..Ells has plenty of pop. fact. He, like the other 2, have a leadoff role.

If batting practice equals pop, then why don't the Red Sox sign that Tampa Bay goalie who hit a 400 foot home run in batting practice? He might at least play better defense than a Bellsbury. Being a goalie, I'm sure his CERA is fantastic and his hitting is already better than Varitek's.

Re: Who is more deserving of a spot than Bellsbury?

No one.  He was voted to the All-Star team by his peers.  And they just might have considered that Jake:  leads the AL in SB's, is third in doubles, 4th in hits, and 5th in runs scored in the AL.  Those numbers are not for outfielders, but for all players.  It would have been a mistake for him not to have been on this year's team.

Softy's choices would have been Drew and McDonald, two outfielders he has raved about in times past.  Or even Kalish.

What a load of BS....it's every players' "role" to score runs.

You make the poster's point.  He is on pace to score 120 runs and that is his role...not swinging from the heels every at bat to pump up HR stats.  More runs are scored in an inning that starts with a walk than a HR.  That tells you all you need to know about a leadoff hitter's role.

George Costanza was also the reason for the Yankees success in the late 90's. Do you really want to go there?

Espn projects him for 17 homers and 44 doubles.  I know you are just trolling but that is a LOT of pop for a lead off hitter.
