I think it's safe to say that Kinsler will be the comparable for Pedroia's next deal. They're both outstanding players. Luckily, we won't have to worry about Pedroia going anywhere until after the 2015 season, although an extension could be reached following 2014 instead of (in addition to?) exercising his option. -

i guess that makes Kinsler more valuable......to the Rangers...i don't think any Sox fan should look to another team's player to determine DP's worth... -

They're both All Stars.
Since the start of the 2010 season, Dustin Pedroia has been valued at 11.5 WAR* and Ian Kinsler at 11.4 WAR. Kinsler is a year older than Pedroia.

Pedey is more valuable, he has been since they both were at Arizona and Kinsler had to transfer due to losing the job to Dustin! But seriously, both are damn good players, all around!

Pedroia is. seems more clutch to me. -

To their respective teams both are extremely valuable. Kinsler has more power, but Pedey better average/OBA wise. Kinsler has a career fielding of .979% with Pedey -.990%!
Kinsler contract no doubt will be a used as a benchmark for Pedey's next one.
In a nutshell, Pedey is more important to the Red Sox than Kinsler to the Rangers... -

Pedroia is pretty close to team MVP even though in 2011 Ellsbury and AGon had better numbers. Last night Pedroia showed why we all think so much of him. -

Posted by seannybboiWhy should we? We have him locked up for through 2015 already for a total of $39M (2012-2015 salaries). 7/$100M would be a record for a 2B and Pedroia doesn't have the leverage to command a record deal right now. If this were the last year in his deal, that'd be another story. -

As Hill shows above, they are very comparable from a bottom line production standpoint (statistically speaking).
So if production is equal, it comes down to intangibles. Pedroia in a landslide. -

He may not have the C on his jersey, but Pedey is absolutely the leader of this team.

wrong...way wrong...anytime Pedey wants to tear up his contract and get a new one, he will be able to....the Sox are not idiots - they will extend him sooner rather than later -

How did a discussion comparing Kinsler and Pedroia begin without any mention of durability? Outside of his freak broken foot a couple of years ago, Pedroia has been extremely durable. By contract, Kinsler is one of the more notorious "nicks and bruises" players in the game...he's good for at least one DL stint a year. -

I thought about bringing this up, but I checked Kinsler's yearly at-bats and was rather surprised. Going into this year, he averaged 500 at bats per year. 3,000 / 6.

Posted by georom4Even if they were to give him a new deal, he isn't getting $20M per season, as the poster suggested.
