Why is McDonald on the roster?

Play Reddick every day for God's sake. If there is noone in A or AA or AAA better than McDonald the sox should shut down operations. This guy should be ashamed of walking into the clubhouse every day. If he had an ounce of pride he would retire and begin selling hotdogs. RSN should sue for divorce if this guy is not done after today. He insults every player who has ever worn a red sox uniform. He insults you who pay $100 to see a game. If the sox are on TV I turn the station when he hits or go to take a dump. -

Couldn't agree more as I have expressed many times. Francona wants to get him going, but how do you get someone without any MLB ability going? Get rid of him when Crawford comes back, have Navarro on the roster as the extra infielder and keep Sutton as your 5th OF.The time has come. No one hitting .111 should be in the major leagues. -

Well, I guess the Sox should shut down operations then.
As far as prospects...you can only call up and send down a guy so many times before you run the risk of losing him to another team. You also deprive them of every day playing time, and a chance to build up their skills and confidence.
I understand your frustration with an extremely struggling player, but should the Sox' roster be comprised of 25 all stars?
The reality is to have people like Agon at 20+, Crawford at 20+, Lackey and beckett at about 17 each, Ortiz at...10? Pap around 11, Drew for 14+, and decent, though not bank busting deals for Pedroia, Youk, Buch and Lester (and more to be paid in the near future) you HAVE to roll the dice on people like McDonald. Thats roughly 140 mil, per year for 11 people. 14 other spots must be filled, and the 140 already represents more than most teams pay for all 25.
So, yeah, you can complain about McDonald, but the complaint should start with signing so many expensive players. If you'd rather have an upgrade to your 4/5th outfielder than someone like Gonzalez of Crawford...well, everyone is entitled to their opinions. -

Posted by ma6dragon9Not really. He just hit into a double play. Sutton is just as cheap as is Navarro. When Crawford comes back, DMac should be DFA'd. No reason to keep him when other low budget players are producing in roster spots 20-25. -

DMac should hit the 3 run homer when bases were loaded with two outs in the four game losing streak. Unfortunately, he had at least three chances like that but he never drove in a run. Not enough talent!!! -

I'd really like to see him manage somehow to hit a 3 run homer when the bases are loaded. Maybe he'd have to pass a runner when rounding the bases. It's called pulling a Dalton Jones.
On July 9, 1970, Jones hit a towering fly ball into the right field upper deck in Detroit with the bases loaded. What should have been a grand slam ended up being a three-RBI single, as Jones passed teammate Don Wert between first and second base. Jones was called out but the three baserunners scored. Interviewed in July 2006, Jones blamed Wert for the embarrassing incident that Jones is now best remembered for. The ball was a towering fly ball, which may or may not have had the distance to make it into the right field overhang at old Tiger Stadium. Jones felt that Wert should have been halfway to second base, prepared to advance if it was a home run, and prepared to return to first if it was caught. Instead, Jones recalled that Wert was returning to first to tag up. Jones says he was already at first when the ball landed in the upper deck, and he passed Wert just 1 or 2 steps past first base. -

Then have a lottery and select a fan before each game to get someone to take McDonald's spot and save the money for someone who can play the game. I go NUTS when this guy comes to the plate! -

Have to agree here.
There is a reason McDonald has spent a career in the minors, and last year's dream season does not negate that fact.
We had him for the good times, but they are over. Move on...
