Why isnt Theo on the hot seat?

Tito stated there were some issues in the clubhouse and locker room... Dont you think Theo was aware of this? Theo has to be accountable here... I am sure Tito went to Theo about this.. What did Theo do about it? Theo has to go as well...What a disgrace this entire thing is!

I'm with you soxman....it's embarrassing to see how little Theo has received in the way of criticism from the media and Sox Nation. I guess he gets off the hook for his miserable signings, turning the Sox into a country club again. Thought it was the O'Connell days, well think again.

Re: Why isnt Theo on the hot seat?

Theo probably laid the blame at the feet of Tito - saying that he had assembled a team to go all the way and the manager did not get it done.  Theo gets the reprieve because it is too hard to fire GM and manager in same year and continue to rebuild for next year.

It's the managers job to resolve clubhouse issues, not the GM's job.  Tito should have taken care of it, just as the medical and training staff should have taken better care of the players 2 years running.

I also agree that Theo definitely deserves some of the blame for the Red Sox collapse this year.  He is the one that is responsible for all of the bad free-agent signings over the years that he has been GM.  Many on this board don't believe that he is doing a great job.

Theo is safe for awhile.     He's a "yes man" which is what ownership wants.    The next field manager will have to be of similar style.

Watching the press conference last night turned my stomach.

He may very well be under scrutiny by John Henry too. We will learn more soon. If Theo stays, unfortuneately it will be more of the same; highly paid, lowly performing free agents, a few trades, although our prospect list is so poor now, this will be difficult, the med staff and trainers will continue to be witch doctors. I am officially on the get rid of Theo bandwagon and will be until he is gone.

bobby, that's a widely held belief by many fans. They think, well so he makes 142 mil, you don't have to play him? Oh, the SP makes 82 mil, you don't have to pitch him? Bullshoy...First of all, there is always going to be an added pressure on a manager to play the high-priced talent over the low-priced talent. It's precisely why it's easier to coach a Moneyball lineup of Oakland A's misfits back in the day, then the Yanks, Sox, Phillies. You can't play platoons, it doesn't go well with the front office, it causes friction between manager and GM. Same with SP, you're going with the high-priced struggling SP over the 2-mil or minimum salary guy every time. It's a no win. If the manager goes ahead and against management's wishes, he will ultimately get fired for being Grady, or a guy who isn't on the same page as management. Maybe it was Tito's decision to leave, but it certainly had to be painted by management that he dropped the ball as manager, so why should he stay if management doesn't have his back? No reason to, and he does deserve better. As for his responsibilities and the whole idea of "acccountability"...well it's called scapegoat-ism....the world needs a scape-goat for everything...Presidents have not been re-elected for many things not in their control, same with Managers. This whole idea that Theo gets to skate while Tito squirms is a pathetic PR spin of the Sox and it's working well apparently.

Esptein is The Problem! Only nepotism would be a reason why he wasn't fired before the end of this season.

Have the sox sports reporter's been napping all season long

It is the job of the reporters to maintain a pulse on events and issues surrounding the team. Why is it that you guys didn't see all of this stuff going on? Why didn't you bring it to the forefront so it could be dealt with immediately and not after the fact?

Ok, now that the cat is out of the bag, you guys need to dig deep and found out what players (that Francona alluded to) were responsible for the red sox collaspe and the loss of one of baseball's best managers. DO YOUR JOB!!!

Theo is the single biggest reason for the Red Sox horrible performance. Firing someone whose mistakes are so egregious is a must. A GM who will thoroughly clean house without concern for his hide or reputation is the number one thing that has to be done going forward. A new manager will not stop the pipeline of overpaid characterless players Theo has put on the field.

Re: Why isnt Theo on the hot seat?

2009 to 2011 fiasco was created by incompetence of Epstein! The problem cannot be the solution. FA contracts are a total joke on value and fit scale, and pitching management approach and development is nothing short of pathetic throughout the entire organization! Mac is the young Rh OFer that is all there is to show for rh OF youth development for Fenway Park in nearly a decade!

Crawford, Jenks, Lackey being the latest failures on the FA front of paying for career years for players with best years in the past!

    Eptein fails on every front!

    Depth of youth player development!

Pitching staff management, acquisition and development!

    FA value and fit acquistition!

Gifting roster spots to washed up veterans like Lowell and Wakefield!

The most important move for the Red Sox is to get rid of this sunk cost! If the Cubs are stupid enough to hire him, send the Cubs a thank you gift!

2004 was largely the work of the prior gm. 2007 was largely the work of Luchino and an ownership group committed to providing a huge budget for retention and aquisition.

Regardless of how much credit one wants to assign to Epstein for the past, there can be no doubt that the last 3 years have been completely incompetent disasters on every evaluation level!

Ignore lazy and access seeking Boston media, Epstein needs to go!

Re: Why isnt Theo on the hot seat?

Theo would be fired if the team started out bad as well the team were never in the first place this year.  But his team was in the first place in the month of September where they were 30 games over .500.  So therefore, John Henry will only blame Tito for the team's colapsed!!

But if Boston do not make into the playoff, he will be the first guy to go!!

Still he would be gone within two months from now cuz he was rumored to go to Chicago Cubs or maybe to LA Dodgers.
