Re: why rays will catch sox

Good news that Boston will play Tampa first BEFORE worry about making into the playoff at the same time Tampa play the Yankees in later part of the season.

Same goes with Angels and Rangers.  Alot of Sox fans are worry about facing Rangers, but what if Angels win the division, and now alot of sox fans would say, great, we re playing against the Angels.

But Tampa need to sweep all 7 games against Boston to order to get back in wildcard chase.  Split wouldnt make any impact!!

    Go Sox

It is not a good argument to say that " If the Sox go such and such , then the Rays would have to go such and such , to catch up."   You cannot presume what the teams records will be over the next three weeks. We have a 7 game lead with 7 games head-to- head with the Rays on the schedule. No question that we have the better team , but also no question that the Rays have the better starting pitching.  Unless the Sox play better than they have recently, the Rays can make up much of the deficit in those games.  I'm not overly worried as yet , but you cannot say that the wild card race is over by any means.

Actually teams with good pitching that can't hit play "small ball"...Teams with good pitching that can hit play for the 3-run homer...

If the Rays were closer I could see it but it's a lot to overcome. This season is starting to like 2009 in Sept. and Oct. all over again. Dejavu?

It's funny, Curt Schilling says of Francona that he "gets the most out of his players night in and night out... and that is difficult to do over 162 games," Mike Fancesca has nothing but praise for Francona every time he speaks of him. Franocna earns similar praise througout the league, but not from Sox fans.
Geniuses on this board want any other manager other than Francona.
My favorite idiotic quote on this board (proof of what sheep most fans are) is from LouV: as long as Francoma is the manager we will get what we have always got. Dude that would be a good thing... 2 WS every ten years would be a GOOD THING. The Sox have been one of the top 3 baseball teams of the last 10 years what part of this do you not understand?!? Why do I bother: just wasted 5 minutes of my life.

Do you know who the #3 team in payroll has been over the last decade...

The NY Met's....and as you see the spending has done them a ton of good.

Do you also know where the moneys for Tampa to continue to stay in business and sign their draft picks comes from?...That would be the large market teams who write checks to MLB who then sends the Rays and Marlins checks to the tune of 30M annually...

    Apparently udontnojack...

Should we delete this topic after Rays lost tonite?   With 21 games to go, and Rays is now 8 games behind!!  They got the Rangers once more time before facing Boston this weekend!!!

It s not going to happen for the Rays to catch Boston nor the Yankees

It should be Uconn. Don't know where some people get these notions. I understand the need to vent, but this was ridiculous.

Re: why rays will catch sox

The Sox and Rays each have 21 games left.

We're talking something like a 6-15 finish by the Sox coupled with a 15-6 finish by the Rays.

    Other things to consider here:

The Sox may have 7 games left against the Rays... but they also have 7 left against the O's.

The Rays may have 7 games left against the Sox... but they also have 7 games left against the Yankees.

This would take outstanding play by the Rays coupled with truly awful play by the Sox coupled with medicore-at-best play by the Yankees.

I'll say that there's less than a 1% chance that the Rays make the postseason.

The Sox would have to lose 7 or 8 in a row, and of course Tampa would have to win 8 of those 10... far unlikley.

I'm sick & tired of these denyers not facing realty. NO pitching, no heart, no enthusiasm & desire to win!-All a reflection of Francoma. That is why he is NOT considered a great mgr. You motivate people and create excitement-all lacking now. Stay with Francoma & things will NEVER change. The only way they can win is if they had 9 TED WILLIAMS on the team!  LouV
