Why Youk at 3rd Lowrie at 1st?

Youkilis is on record saying he does not mind playing either 1st or 3rd but he does not want to be shuttled back and forth.  Of course, the best defensive alignment would have seen him move across the diamond last night. But Tito goes with what his veteran wants.  Once again his loyalty hurts the team.

wake up....when putting a team of all stars on the field, the managers #1 job is to keep all happy. not so easy with all of the ego's involved, but that is Francona's greatest strength.

On MLB Greatest Games, Buckner disputes the notion that Stapleton regularly replaced him at end of games.  The Sox thought he was a butcher at first and hobbled or not, Buckner was at first at the end of almost every game all season.

Youk was very good at first, Lowrie has been solid and has experience at third.  He has almost no experience at first and he failed on two relatively easy plays. Both of the hitters came around to score.  I am going to guess Youk would rather win.

Wrongway Peachfuzz at the helm. This was a collective loss; baserunning blunders, no timely hitting, specious substitutions, and complete BP mismanagement. Francona gets most of the credit for this one.

Re: Why Youk at 3rd Lowrie at 1st?

Francona would rather lose the game than lose the player. If Youk says no one playing 1B, you won't see him there unless Agon gors down for the season, and then Youk is full time at 1B.
I am not saying it is the right way, I am saying it is Francona's way. It has brought him this far, he is not going to change.
After the horrid start, this team needed a kick in the *ss, but Francona can't do it....again, it is what it is. But for this particular team, isn't it better than 99% of the alternatives?
Were you impressed with Scioscia these past 2 weeks? Do you like the way Girardi handles his pitching staff? His game decisions? Other than Madden...Francona isn't so bad

LOL... So Knowing the situation you really think Francona went to Youk and he said No ?? I really think Youk and Lowrie should have just got together and switched on their own like we use to do on the playground. If both Players and the Manager can't get this right there is something seriously wrong with the "TEAM" concept on this TEAM !! What was best for the TEAM, last Night, was Lowrie at 3rd and the Gold Glove 1st baseman at 1st, ESPECIALLY after watching the play in the 9TH !!

But alas, Stapleton did replace Buckner at the end of games 1, 2 and 5 of the Series to protect the leads in those games.

Not true man.  Stapleton came in for him regularly.

I think that you are misreading it. I think that Youk feels he is sub par at 1B if he is playing 3B full time. He would not rather hurt the team with a sub par performance.
Would he have been better than Lowrie at 1B? Most likley, Youk thinks not.

as a field manager,  comparing CONA with MCNAMARA makes sense.
they are and were both terrible.
