    Will Drew Play Again?

What do you think, yes or no?

And if so, why? And don't say to boost his trade value, please.

Not allowed to say yes, to boost his trade value?  Boy, this is a really strict opinion poll.

Yes....because the Red Sox aren't going to let him ride the bench all season.

Don't like that????? well, I'd prefer to see him out of Boston as well.

But reality tells us he will likely take an at bat in Boston again.

    Wanna bet on that???

To boost his trade value, Drew SHOULD NOT play again. Same goes for Mujica and Doubront.

Yes, because no matter what he's doing offensively, he's hands down the best ss on the team.  Yes, there are others who can play the position, but Bogaerts is not that good there and Holt has now played all of one game there in the majors. He's a great story, but Holt is not that good an infielder.

He didn't figure to play that much against LHP and so far that has proved to be true.  White Sox will throw their 3rd southpaw in a row this afternoon, so he probably won't be in the line-up again.

what kind of question is that?  is that because he sat out yesterday until he came in the game as a late defense replacement?  remember, the pitcher for the White Sox is a lefy at the same time Drew often do not play in a game that the Sox faces lefty pitcher.

The Drew signing was a mistake. I don't hate him. He is not a bum. All things considered, he is a pretty good player.  But to pay him 10 mil for half a season and he can't play against tough lefties , makes no sense.  It was a mistake, plain and simple.

Illinois- He's hitting .133 and doesn't play against lefties. Does that provide stability to a lineup?

    Re: Will Drew Play Again?

This is nothing against Drew, at first I thought this was a good signing. But not now. Sox have to make a decision, because at this point he is taking away valuable playing time at the Major League level, at an important Position. With 70+ games time evaluate Bogaerts, is he the answer, or maybe Marrero, don't really know.
Sox should eat have his salary, and not go for the world on a Prospect, but maybe a high A one. He'll be a rental, so cant ask for the world.
I still think Theo comes out of Leftfield and offers Castro on the market, then it will be difficult to move him.

Because he can't hit lefties, even at a prorated $14M salary. He can't hit righties either.

Retrospectively yes, it was a mistake. However, if you recall the circumstances that prevailed when he was signed, it was an effort to salvage a season that seemed headed in the wrong direction but which was not yet a lost cause. At the time it was becoming clear that Middlebrooks was a bust, and that to compete something had to be done to replace him. So they got Drew and moved Bogaerts to 3B. A reasonable effort IMO. Of course, knowing what we now know (Drew us a useless appendix and the team's season is over) we would not have done the deal. Its so easy to judge things through a retrospectoscope.

Drew will always be appreciated for his stellar defense at SS and timely HRs when it counted in '13 WS title run.

The OP's question was "Will Drew Play Again", not should he.  And he will play because defensively he is the best ss on the team.

Holt is starting to show some signs of coming back to Earth; the All-Star Break will come at a good time for him, because as well as he's been playing, it has got to be extra taxing playing in a different spot every game.

    Re: Will Drew Play Again?

The ridiculous bouncing around of Holt at RF, SS, 3B, LF, CF...is an abomination. Farrell's use of him that way is another disservice to a rookie ballplayer. It's misuse.

You have become quite the voice of reason, Pumps.

And bonus points for the use of the word 'retrospectoscope'.

    Re: Will Drew Play Again?

I got on Drew too this year, but the reality is that the moment he was not going to start the season on the Sox roster was the moment that it would affect any chance of him being an effective ballplayer at least for the first few months when he did return. No one just turns on a faucet to play MLB except for Bo Jackson.

Cubs promoted Alcantara for a couple of days, if he looks good at 2nd base, they will have a logjam at SS. They are already set at 3rd, in Bryant, first Rizzo, just cant help thinking Theo will do something crazy.

He is 1-2 with 3 rbi's so far.
