    In response to stapleton's comment:

depends on how often he's being tested and the timing of the tests.

he is tested on every pitch....just has to keep from hitting into the shift

    In response to softlaw2's comment:

If they limit him to about 100 to 110 games, he has a decent shot at it. If they change the way they are resting him, he'll go back on the DL.

Since Papi returned on April 20th, he has not played on these days:

    4/23

    4/29 Team day off

    5/2

    5/12

    5/13 Team day off

(Note: he also missed the one game of a doubleheader on 4/21, but he still played a full game that day)

Once Papi has returned, he has played on 24 of the 27 days we had a game. He probably wont' get a day off for at least 3 more games, so he's basically on a pace of about 1 missed day out of 10. With 119 games left, if they don't "change the way they are resting him", he will end up with about 131 games.

To end up with 100 games, he'd have to get hurt and miss a stretch of games and/or miss 43 of 119 games. That's sitting him about one of every 4 games.

If he goes on the DL for 15 days and misses 14 game, he's have to sit out 29 of the other 105 games to end up with 100. That's about 3 out of every 10 games.

I'd say he gets 100+ RBIs, if they move Ellsbury from the one slot real soon.

I think if Ortiz only plays in 100 games he's still got a shot to knock in 100 rbi.

you've made stupid into an art form.

He's obviously banking on an injury that keeps Papi out for a significant time, even if they don't " change the way they have been resting him."

It's also become clear he is hoping it happens.

Yeah, especially the HR Derby. There's enough young guys in league - let themmess-up their swings for the remainder of the season. I'd rather see Papi take a mini-vaca' to the DR er someplace & get some R & R at the Break.

(Just stay away from those "sports drinks" over there. Wink ).

I wonder if Ted Williams would have let a home run derby 'screw up his swing' for the rest of the season....somehow, I doubt it.

Since he wasn't a home run hitter, he would never enter one or hit line drives if he did.

It's been a League-wide trend that's all. Not particularly a Red Sox trend.
