I like Speier too. His articles are always informative and honest.

It was time for Mass to move ove on yrs ago, his work was substandard. I always laugh when he would write a Pats article, he clearly knew very little about football.

Mazz was an excellent baseball writer and beat reporter at the Herald.

And I liked his stuff -- doesn't meant I always agreed with him -- at the Globe and boston.com. I'll miss his writing.

With Mazz leaving and Ryan retired except for the occasional Sunday column, the Globe has holes to fill. Gasper isn't terrible but he's hardly a must-read yet.

I know many don't like Shaughnessy, but he is an excellent writer IMO, even if you don't like what he writes and he's carrying a large load with Ryan and Mazz gone. He's not as versatile as Ryan but he's close. Dan is the one writer I always make sure I read.
