it doesn't have to be intentional.  Middlebrooks has GOT to come off that bag and catch the ball.  He didn't.  contact ocurred.  I don't like the call especially since you could see the runner was holding middlebrooks down but the call is right

Workman could have stayed also.  Whatever Farrell did late in the game, it went the other way.

Dude, the 3rd base ump clearly called obstruction, the play at home doesn't matter the runner gets to advance. that's why he pointed at the 3rd base ump and gave the safe sign. This call has nothing to do with the home plate ump at all.

Salty should not have thrown the ball, it looked like even if the throw was a good one, the runner still would have been safe.  You would think they would think twice about throwing to third after the last game.

yup, you have GOT to come off the bag and catch the ball.  It really is that simple.
Kind of hard to come off the bag to make the catch with a guy sliding towards him.

And who didn't get a knot in their stomach when they saw Salty throw to third?

You dont think it was a one for Dana? after being embarrased on national TV game 1? Trust me, they said there would be payback, and tonight was. Period. They could have called no interference. The fielder has priority on a ball he laid out for it. Craig initiated the contact. Complete utter BS along with the rest of this series. Baseball has gone the way of basketball, football, and hockey. Joke. Period.  How do you know whats legit or not anymore?

The call was not right and considering the importance of this game, it's an atrocity to the sport. These umps s/b investigated, especially Joyce and the slug who umped behind the plate.
It was the right call.  The runner was impeded.  Doesn't matter if it was intentional or not.  Don't blame the umps for terrible defense by the Red Sox.  2 games in a row were lost because of terrible throws to third.

Even then, you see them again. in the pen. People are placing the blame in the wrong places, like pinch hitting someone guarantees a hit. The blame is on MLB for not blood testing or wee testing these Cardinal players, and after Beltran, their hitters to. Cardinal rule, no pun, is never end a playoff of championship game on a BS call. Period

Re: World Series Game 3 Thread: Red Sox at Cardinals

Nearly every move Farrell made blew up on him and the team.  Even positioning the players where he had the outfield deep to prevent the extra base hit allowed the Molina lazy fly to drop in. Not playing Middlebrooks to protect against the double down the line while the Cards obviously kept the 3B on the line (the Pedey line drive catch). Completely outmanaged; this guy reminds me of Darrell Johnson, at least as a field manager.

Thats what they said about Kelly. This National League is rediculous with the pitchers hitting who are automatic outs 95 % percent of the time. The game has watered down pitching to begin with and now you are letting pitchers hit and run the bases to risk further injury.  Dumb baseball.
