Looks like someone can't sleep after last night's win.

I couldn't sleep with all the excitement after 2 deflating games.

Hope Sox bat can continue the good work they started last night.

    Go Sox !

Re: World Series Game 5 Thread: Red Sox at Cardinals

Good news is that Ross is catching.  Cardinals didnt run too much like to try to attempt steal, etc. on Ross.   That is the difference between Ross and Salty from one game to another.

Hopefully Victorino come back, if not, Nava did a good job play RF last nite.  Good thing we have a good four OF's who all can play good defense.

Keep Drew at SS for the entire game no matter how bad he is hitting.  If Farrell have pinch hit Drew again like he did it in game 3, St Louis would have one or two extra man or men on bases couple tiimes from 7th to 9th innings where the ball went toward to SS spot, and Bogaerts would more likely have trouble fielding that balls.  Drew is the defense MVP of the series.

I do not know about using Breslow ever again.  He is now scaring me!!   Now we have two questionable lefties in the bullpen for the rest of the series, Breslow and Morales.  We need them to get the confidence back cuz that is the only lefties we have in the bullpen other than Doubront!

Ross seems to be an upgrade over Salty lately.  But you never know where production is going to come from next considering the one hit wonders of Naps, Vic and Gomes, and even Salty's walk off single in ALCS.  May be Drew hits a late go ahead HR ?

You re right that we all do not know when is the next hit by Drew or Salty or etc.  But Farrell isnt going to gamble on it.  He rather to put the best defenders out there to keep the game tight, and let it play out.   Pinch hitting isnt working anymore.  I think so far PH are like 0 for something.  But in someway, PH may be a good thing to use to force Cardinals to keep making pitching changes.  More Cardinals make pitching changes, a better chance for the Red Sox to get extra runs due Cardinals best pitchings from the bullpen may be already used or cant use due.

+1. The Sox main advantage of the Cards right now is the depth they have on the Bench(excpet for Craig who right now is limited to a HR or a Single)....especially if VIc is healthy enough to Play....using some PH late with double switches can get the Cards to run through some of the better amrs they have in the BP....of course a better plan would be to get to Wainright early again and count on JL to shut them down again. Probably going to be another nail biter tonight...Cards know this is a must win for them...I hear there is rain heading to Boston for Wednesday which may stay around for a few days...this may end up being one of the craziest series ever.

Re: World Series Game 5 Thread: Red Sox at Cardinals

First 3 games had too many sloppy plays by the losing team.  Inspite of the errors in game 4, none of those errors contibuted to the final result, unlike in the first 3 games.

If Sox can play an error free game, like letting one sail over the corner infielders, they have a better chance to win than Cards if they also play an error free game.

It is also encouraging that the bats seem to be awakening finally in this series, while it is disppointing to see Bres lose his effectiveness, and something seems to ron Buchholz from being 100%.

Sox sure made this an exciting series instead of sweeping if they played to their potential.

3 games left UConn. Doubie is probably not available tonight, but will be for 6 &7. Breslow picked a bad time to become ineffective. The guy has been money, but Middle relief is so quirky. With Lester and Lackey up next, I think (hope) the bullpen arms will get some rest.

Re: World Series Game 5 Thread: Red Sox at Cardinals

Go with same line up as last night, but I'd move Bogey to 2nd and Nava behind Papi then Gomes.   Such a stronger lineup 1-6 that way.     But Nava at 2 isn't so bad as it could make Matheny bring ini a lefty vs. Ellsbury, get Nava to turn around to the right (not his best side) but Pedey then faces a lefty which he usually hits well and Papi who seems to be hitting everybody.

But Putting Nava at 5th, causes bigger problems for ST. Louis.   Bring a lefty in for Ells, but tough then bring in a righty for Bogey and Pedey, then have to use another lefty for Papi and Nava then have to switch back for Gomes could really get them to use up more guys as well.

Plus Drew actually had some better AB's last night, got an RBI on a deep pop up to left, and hit a fairly deep flyball to left center.    That shows me that he has stopped trying to pull the ball so much.   Maybe he is coming out of it a bit?
