In terms of raw talent, Lackey or J Lo?

Bear in mind, thats about the most insulting thing a person can say about another human being.

No way is DiceK on the level with the big bust, Slackey, even with the posting fee.

Counting Dice-K's posting fee as part of his contract is wrong, IMO.  His salary is commeasurate with other pitchers of his ability and hardly a huge stumbling block if the Sox want to trade him.

    Lackey, on the other hand.

Wheeler won't finish the season in Boston.  But anyone who brings up his deal as a candidate for a bad contract is completely clueless.  The guy signed a short team contract that, while a bit high for a middle reliever, is hardly an albatross...

you realize its a joke right? comparing J Lo to Bobby Jenks wasnt intended as a serious debate. Bobby has a much better singing voice and J Lo has a lower ERA.

I agree that the salary is more important than the posting fee. It also effects the CAP and trade options as you mentioned. The thread did say "contract" so in that sense, the posting fee should not be counted. However, the money was spent on Dice-K and not elsewhere. If you count the Tax for going over the Luxury CAP Level, perhaps the Sox (Henry)could have spent about $40-45M of the $50M and been "even". This is significant.

    Lackey, on the other hand.

If you count just $43M of the $51.1M posting fee:
    Lackey: $82.5M/5 years (2010 dollars)  4.19 ERA/ 1.390 WHIP
    Dice-K:   $95M/6 years (2007 dollars)     4.76 ERA/1.462 WHIP

Yes, Dice-K has been better using these numbers, and Lackey has cost more money per season (even adjusted), but Lackey has had a better QS% and still has time to turn it around and end up being better in comparison.

He better do it soon, or Aceves might be taking his slot.

True. And, the way relievers are up and down over seasons and within seasons, I still havehope he will turn it around.

I'm wondering if Theo listened to softy...eh, hem...I mean, GM when he signed Wheeler.

Wheeler will end up fine, in a middle pen role he was brought into. I wonder who Theo was listening to when he paid all that money for Slackey. Who could have possibly in favor of spending that kind of money to sign Slackey.

J-Lo, by a landslide. She has no talent and never has.

Just (try to) listen to her latest song (on the floor) and tell me what a massive rip off it is of Lambada (90s brazilian(?) tune)

Wasn't the talk of the offseason regarding bullpen depth that the dearth of viable bullpen candidates was going to force teams to overpay in AAV and/or years, or both?  Relievers made a killing last winter.  Was the preference for the Sox to sit there and let Wheeler and Jenks go elsewhere and hope Oki turned it around or to try to re-acquire MDC?  Let's let the season play out a bit, bullpens are always a crap shoot and there are always arms to be had.  Wheeler and Jenks aren't done yet.

Re: Lackey, I didn't hear too many people complaining when Plan B after blowing the Teixeira FA signing was to get the best available starter on the market.  Lackey got a deal on par with AJ Burnett, and like or lump Lackey and Burnett, the market was established.  Dice-K was a bad miss, but I tend to side with those who think he has some value to the team and not to jump the gun like Peter Abraham or other media members calling for his departure when he got off to a bad start.
