The Red Sox have already offered the M's any 5 of Clay, Lowrie, Ells, Kalish, Reddick, Anderson, Fuentes and Doubront for the King and were turned down. Seriously, if you want Felix Hernandez, you have to start the discussion with someone like Youk or Pedey.

Dont need him, so i wouldnt give the farm for him. Let NY get him and have their best and only good prospects gone. they would have a good 1-2 punch, but ill take our 1-2-3-4-5 punch over their staff any day.

This hype about Felix H. is the same as the hype for Cliff Lee.

Boston does not need him.  What Boston needs is more parking lots at Quincy Market.

Not only is that not enough, but why would Lars Anderson be a decent compliment to Justin Smoak?  They play the same position.  It seems kind of redundant to have two LHB first basemen with questionable abilities to hit LHP.

Yep. This conversation was dead 3 years ago and it's still dead as far I'm concerned.  The Yankee fans on this board seem to over look this fact too (every week).  They get as far as Montero and then start to stutter for some reason.

[QUOTE]One thing take him out of that pitchers park, and put him in the AL East, wonder how much of a difference that would make. Dont forget they play also in Oakland too, one of the best pitchers park there is. I think definetly his ERA would go up. Be something having him though. Getting back to the trade, Seattle has nothing but him to put people in the seats, so I dont think they go for it. He is a God out there.

In 2010, Felix Hernandez was 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA at Fenway Park in his only start against the Red Sox. Hernandez is 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA in four career starts at Fenway Park.

In 2010, Hernandez was 3.0 with a 0.35 ERA in three starts against the New York Yankees, including a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA in two starts at Yankee Stadium.

Hernandez has a 3.14 ERA in 301 career innings against AL East teams, an ERA that is lower than his overall career ERA of 3.22.

A week rarely goes by on this forum without an unrealistic proposal of a Red Sox trade for Felix Hernandez, who is virtually untradeable because of the return the Mariners would demand. - hill55

hill - true dat.  I remember some unrealistic trades for A-Gon being proposed for two years on this forum.  Ultimately, it happened  - but I think it was timing - San Diego was nervous about what sort of return they would get on A-Gon before he hit FA.  Same could be true here.

Truth is, if Lackey continues to perform as he did against his old team, and Dice K continues to be decent, then Felix is superfluous.

I agree with Chip (redsoxfan791) - who would want Lars Anderson? He is a reclamation project at this point, not a full (or even partially) developed player.

The difference is that Felix Hernandez is signed through the 2014 season while Adrian Gonzalez was under his team's control for only one more season.

Does anyone think 21-year-old Anthony Rizzo will be outperforming nearly 29-year-old Adrian Gonzalez in three years?

    http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=1B&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=519203

Even so, the trade would be worth it if Gonzalez helps bring the Red Sox a World Series title (just as Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell did after the trade of Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez).

Re: Would you do this trade for Felix Hernandez?

I hear you, hill. It is really tempting to think about Felix in a Red Sox uniform.

Here is Felix's contract info - courtesy of Cot's Baseball Contracts

    5 years/$78M (2010-14)

    • signed extension with Seattle 1/19/10 (avoided arbitration, $11.5M-$7.2M)
    • $3.5M signing bonus
    • 10:$6.5M, 11:$10M, 12:$18.5M, 13:$19.5M, 14:$20M
    • limited no-trade protection (may block deals to 10 clubs annually)
    • award bonuses: $50,000 each for All-Star, LSC MVP, Gold Glove; $0.1M for WS MVP; $0.2M for Cy Young
    • 2010 Cy Young increases 2011 salary by $1M to $11M, 2012 salary by $0.5M to $19M, 2013 salary by $0.5M to $20M, 2014 salary by $0.5M to $20.5M

I would be curious to know if those are a specific set of ten clubs, or ten trades, or the first ten trade offers.

Clearly, though, Felix has a say in whether he gets traded, and that may hinge on whether he could renegotiate his contract upwards with the new club.

Wonder if Theo is ready for that fight.

It would all boil down to the bodies involved.

I think you are right, he will not be traded. Certainly not to the Sox for the package that the OP proposed.

All this talk about Felix H. being traded is a waste of time and energy.

It would be more productive if we all just did our laundry and grocery shopping.
