    In a perfect world,...............

    Dear Mr. Cherington:

I apologize for my poor performance.  To show my sincere appreciation for your trust and faith in me, I will return $100 million to your organization.

My agent, Scott Boras is threatening to end my life but I strongly believe that this is the right thing to do.

    Sayonara.

    Sincerely Yours,

    Dice-K

Let's try "Play It Forward" Mr Beckett and Mr Crawford...actually the whole Sox team should join in.

Foulke did the same thing a few years ago.  He signed a contract with Cleveland, found out he knees were so bad he had trouble throwing everyday, and retired rather than go out for the year on the DL.

Gil Meche sacrificed something like $11 million wasn't it?

Anyhow the Japanese know much more about honor than any baseball player.

I worked with the Japanese for 10 years.  They're nice people, but most of the people I run into are fairly nice.  But i wouldn't go too far overboard on the 'honor' thing.  They are taught to be deferential, and that oftentimes translates into allowing the company to control your life.
