And suppose Andy Pettitte can still pitch. They don't need 9 innings from him far less.

If he can give then 5-6 innings all they need.

If he can he puts Hughes and Garcia in the pen.

Or they put him in the pen as a lefty specialist.

Suppose......Petitte can still pitch,TWM, it's a question of how effectively.
Like I said he's an unknown at this point, even to himself. For all the banter, posturing and conjecture on this board, the bottom line is wait and see. It's why they play the games.

Can you blame them? Would any of YOU enjoy going to a board dominated by Yankee fans? Even if you ARE a Yankee fan?

Now who's using wishful thinking? BTW, Tito was a good manager, but it was time to go. I'm very glad for the change, and don't see any problem between V and JB affecting team performance. V will be good for 2-3 years most likely, not a long term solution probably, but what the team needs for the moment.

He hasn't pitched in year and a half. No way he gets back to where he was. He's a fifth starter at best, and I'm not sure about that. Not sure why NYY made this move, unless they know something about Pineda or Kuroda that we don't.

Kuroda pitched great today, Hughes has pitched well all spring, Nova pitched well his last appearance, Garcia has pitched well the swelling is down. Pineda pitched well his last time out. CC is CC.

A few of the young guys headed to SWB had good showings this spring against ML hitters, Warren, Mitchell, Phelps and again looking good today Betances.

Pitching is a Yankee strength not a concern.

Of course, and you share the views of most NYY fans, that's why we play the games. On the forum earlier tonight I predicted that Yankees would be 15 games out of first place on April 21st,, and what the hey, why not? What do I have to lose?

You put that much stock in ST results?

I just hope they stay healthy and are ready to go when the games count

Typically I base my opinions on what I see.

I see depth both from experience on this team with a good mixture of young talent.

Of course the unknowable are injuries, they always occurr, and why quality rotation depth at AAA is also important. The Yankees have quality depth at AAA SWB.

Important to promote important as trade chips to get replacement players.

I like the depth on this Yankee team, an effective AP only adds to it.

Not too many Yankee pitchers had great success against Boston last season but keep in mind they don't play Boston 162 games.

Good depth in the roation keeps the pen fresh.

If a starter goes down the Yankees have a decent option.

With this rotation and pen they will compete.

I'd say the Yankees definitely have less concerns about depth than we do.  We need to be lucky, frankly.  We need one or more of the scrap heap guys to come through, or Dice-K to have a comeback.  It could happen, certainly.  And if they offered Oswalt 6 million they're obviously prepared to make a move for another starter at some point.

This rivalry that Boston and NY fans share is something special both on and off the field.

But the Tigers and Angels have progressed this off season in leap and bounds, Tampa up to their necks in good young pitching this will be an interesting AL season to say the least.

He was healthy, by in large, and in the Cy Young discussion, until September, "the chicken and beer BS" is past and his attitude has always been what it is. Beckett nor anyone else was soley responsible for Franconas removal. At this point, a 40 year old Petitte as of June 15, after a year off,  is an unknown at best.

Tampa has always been a darkhorse in comparison to Sox, Yankees. It will be interesting this year now that they are expected to contend.

The Yankees had moved on, why they moved Montero for Pineda and signed Kuroda, why they resigned Freddy G.

They had no idea Pettitte would come out of retirement that was his decision, he asked if he could return.

Honestly what would expect the Yankees to say/do in this situation say no?

He has signed to a minor league contract at this point there is nothing to lose but a lot to gain by having another lefty on the roster.

    Rivera (42) on Pettitte (39): “He’s young.”

RIVERA: “The drive and desire doesn’t go away. You see Yogi always talking about the game, so that will never go away. What goes away is the conditioning. You guys saw him. He’s in great shape. He’s in baseball shape, so he’ll be ready. … I think Andy can be anything that he wants. He’s young.”

A sure sign that it's almost baseball season: Folks complaining about all the Yankee fans on the board.

Being that I have several good friends who are NYY fans (I'm mature enough to overlook such obvious character flaws), it doesn't bother me a bit.

Yeah Lloyd I complain about the Sox fans in my family but it does no good. Better just to bust on each other as often as possible.

My sister married a native Bostonian die-hard Sox fan, a work-aholic too.

While he was working trying to keep a roof over their head I took his 2 boys to as many Yankee games as possible. Birthdays, Christmas bought them nothing but Yankee paraphernalia now that they're grown up and big time Yankee fans he has to listen to the three of us at all family get togethers.

That's what he gets for marrying my little sister.
