Why wouldn't you let a guy who retired the side on 5 pitches come back out? I get you want a set up guy then closer but......

It's been one of my gripes for years.  If effective, why not ride him?  I like Uehara.  I think he could end up being our closer.

I'm with ya, Joel. Guy comes out of the pen sharp you go with it cause you have NO CLUE if the next guy has it that day or not.

I've never liked the one-inning reliever trend that Tony LaRussa started with the A's 20-plus years ago. But all managers are doing it. The theory: You use a guy one inning today and you have him again tomorrow, keeping more arms available for various matchups. This is especially true for the closer and the primary set-up guy. If you extend the primary set-up guy one day, you won't have him fresh for the next day -- if at all -- when you might need him in a tough situation.

The one-inning thing might be OK for the set-up guy and closer. Don't know if I really agree with other relievers. If the guy is pitching well, why not extend him. You might not have him the next day but you everyone else. I especially don't like it for the sixth inning. Whoever you bring in then, I'd like to see him go at least two innings.

Most interesting stat of the day so far - Iggy, 3-4 without getting the ball out of the infield.

If Iggy can bat .250 while he's filling in, can Farrell really justify putting Drew back out there regardless of his naming Drew as his starting SS?

He'll kind of have to. The Sox aren't going to just release Drew. Hopefully he can come back and play well enough that he's tradeable.
