NEW YORK — Joe Girardi said today that the Yankees would start Freddy Garcia (11-8, 3.77) A.J. Burnett (10-11, 5.28) and Ivan Nova (16-4, 3.62) against the Red Sox this weekend.

The Sox are starting Jon Lester, Tim Wakefield and Somebody Else. I asked my cab driver just now and it's not him.

What a difference from 2004. 2004 -  Millar : " Don't let us win tonight , because tomorrow we have Pedro , and then we have Schill."    2011-  Tomorrow night : "Don't let us win tonight because tomorrow we have Wake , and then we have Lackey or Bedard or maybe we can check the waiver wire for somebody or, gee , I don't know who might pitch."   Not quite the same , to say the least.

This weekend should tell us more about the Yankees true intensions.  If they play to beat us but don't do the same against Tampa we may be out of luck so we have to beat NY.

Whatever they do, they'll have to do that same in both series'. Wouldn't you say? Most likely, you'll see one or two regulars out of the lineup for all 6 games. BTW, start Aceves. Tito said something about Bucholz maybe pitching Sunday. He won't start, but it'd be nice to see him get 2-3 innings in. That with Aceves might give us a chance. The Sox actually have a chance to win this series, believe it or not.

John Lackey or Tim Wakefield would be adequate ... at some point they should regress toward their historical norms.

Or perhaps it's time to bring up 24-year-old righthander Alex Wilson ...

... although the Red Sox would need to make room for Wilson on the 40-man roster (maybe by dropping Wakefield).

In tonight's game, Jeter's sailing toss over Posada into the Yankees boxes seemed almost in-your-face blatant, and it probably says all you need to know about how the Yanks will play against the Rays in a few days.  That being said, the counterintuitive nature of this seasonal finish tells me that the loosey-goosey Yanks, determined to cripple the Bosox chances and punch a playoff ticket for either the Rays or Halos,  will end up getting beaten by the Red Sox this weekend. Remember, Garcia stunk in his last start, and Burnett always looks,  after only 3 innings of work, like Yankee management has forced him to work overtime and miss his precious dinner date.  It will be a slugfest with the Bosox taking two out of three.  I think the Bosox sneak into the playoffs by a game or even two.

Warning: This post was created by a Yankee fan, and may be intended to cause irreparable emotional and psychological harm to any Red Sox fan who might read it.
