    Yankees went cheap on bullpen

The Yankees made some big investments this offseason, but none of the investment went toward the bullpen, that's for sure.  Mo retires moving D-Rob to closer, and they do nothing to take D-Rob's place as #2 reliever.  Their big bullpen acquisition was Matt Thornton, a guy that Red Sox fans couldn't wait to see the end of.

Now D-Rob is on the DL and they're using Kelley to close.

Re: Yankees went cheap on bullpen

they overspent on OF'ers, C, and a starter with no MLB exp.

Now, they might all do well, but they lack depth in just about every area. A couple big injuries and it could get ugly. That new kid at SS/3b is looking pretty good though.

No getting a bonafied closer had to be one of the dumbest non movesIMHO. DRob had little exp. as a closer and Im not sure from what I saw that I would have trusted him with the job without having a BU plan, ie; Edward Mujica incase Koji has issues.

Im a big fan of having a lot of depth. Its a long season and injuries WILL happen and you have to be prepared forit. Im not sure the NYY are.

Solarte has been pretty good so far.

The Yankees should give Mo a call and ask him to un-retire and close for them.  j/k  LOL

I don't know about the Yankmee BP, but as for their broadcasting personel, Cone and Simpleton have no right to be anywhere near a microphone. They truly suk as announcers. Cone has a voice like a nail on a chalkboard and Simpleton is just plain stupid. They make Orsillo and Remy seem like Vin Scully and Jack Buck.

By and large the mistake is usually one of spending too much on a reliever.  Guys like Rivera are rare as hen's teeth.  Better to have several options.  See Sox 2013 and 2014.

I wouldn't say he was a bad announcer

and I wouldn't say he was a good announcer

Basing that on one game? Smart.

Mujica saved 37/41 last year, with a WHIP of 1.01.

What does Kelly's closer resume look like?

Or, his set-up resume, for that matter.

    he's terrible.
you just need to watch and listen to a couple innings to realize it.

i watched 1 inning last night and here is the perfect example:

8th inning Cruz up.  i think it was 3-2 count...McCann sets up on the outside of the plate.  Warren throws a breaking ball middle in that is a hanger.  Cruz's eyes light up and he just misses it and flies out to right.

Simpleton:  "he made a great pitch there"

Cone:  proceeds to (correctly) explain how warren missed his target by 2 feet and got away with a cookie.

the loss of Mo is exactly why i have the yankees as a .500 team at best this season.

Im not knocking the signing itself zac. If you read, I said they OVERPAID by a lot for these guys and didnt spend some $$ where they needed too, IMO. McCann and Ells are solid players without a doubt, but not nearly worth what they got.

Oh, and At least Mujica had 30+ saves last year and is our back up in case something happens to Koji, our top closer...That would be considered qualified to be a closer, and hes still our BU plan. Who do you have? Kelly? now that is an LOL...good luck with that.

exactly what does ' overpaid ' mean in yankeeland

it usually means paying to get your top choice not top value

I also saw you question his D B4

and FWIW most reporters / talking heads

have said signing mccann was a great move 4 NYY

DRob certainly has the potential to be a good closer.  Recall that Mariano was an ineffective starter first in the majors, then was converted to BP where he was the setup guy for John Wetteland in 1996.  He became the full time closer from 1997.  But for his DL stint, DRob was on his way to following in Rivera's footsteps, and may yet do so, if healthy!

Look forward to the four game set, beginning today.  Buch and Doubront better regain their form or we are looking at RS losing three out of four.  I hope not!

    Boston, City of Champions!
