Youkilis getting left hip examined/Bedard also back in Boston

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff
Kevin Youkilis returned to Boston to get his left hip examined. No word on his return.

Erik Bedard also is back in Boston. He now has a lat strain to go along with a sore knee. But Terry Francona didn't feel it was a major issue.

If the Red Sox are NHL '92 then fate is purposefully making Gretzky's head bleed...

I hope Youk doesn't go down the path of another stellar 3rd baseman, Mike Lowell.
Once his hip problems began, his career was esentially over. He was my favorite player, and it was painful to see him try to get around.
Hopefully, Youk's case will be something less severe.

If You goes down, then the only real RH bat we have in the lineup is Pedroia......then the team really becomes exposed to LHP, at least dominate LHP.

I know, I've advocated this not being a huge problem as we do lead the league against LHP in most category's......but I still see a big problem going up against a big name lefty in the playoffs without Youkilis.

In terms of the future, I really hope this isn't serious...I do see Youkilis as more of a DH, and I was hoping Middlebrooks could fill his shoes when youk slides into that role.  But middlebrooks won't be ready untill 2013, mid 2012 at best....and if this is bad then Youkilis could start to break down in the field next year.

People laughed at me when I warned about Youk's move to 3B and the increased odds of losing his needed bat.

Getting tired of his injuries year after year. It might be time to trade him after the season. He is starting to get like JD Drew.

Why would he or management want to bluff? Does it increase his salary or attendance?

please see the TITO has Thrown in the towel thread

just saw Tito say he sent Youk back because he was going to give him a rest anyway - he will see the medical staff and seewhats up.....translation....NOTHING wrong with him that couldnt be played through but we are resting our players for the playoffs...u bootlickers are like pavlovian dogs reacting to anything...there is NOTHING WRONG WITH HIM

Nothing is more frustrating than seeing Youk get hurt time and time again.  Either fight through it or just hang it up for the season.  Will Middlebrookes is knocking at the door, may even be the guy for next year.

Middlebrook should have another year in AAA. Still needs to be working on some things..But now that Youk has a problem with his groin or a sports hernia, that could change..

Stop with the know-it-all BS already. You are making DR. Softone look good at this point. Whether it's precautionary or more serious, the visit is deemed necessary.
