Your Favorite Manager DID IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

It is absolutely unbelievable that the Vote of Confidence guy with the under .500 record can again find a way to cite a negative or incite a player with a dumb quote or ill-advised mention to the media. Does BV get that you don't have to tell the Boston Globe everything?? Nope. Full disclosure Bobby, that's Bobby. Oh and here's the best 2 parts--he does this AFTER a 14-1 win, DURING AN UPSWING. DURING A GOOD MORALE PERFORMANCE. and here's the second best part--it's Carl Crawford who is the one this time who gets blind-sided on a hot streak. I give up on BV. Fire the SOB, fire him yesterday, fire him 2 months ago, fire him 3 months ago. Enough about the great tactical veteran manager and get someone who actually discusses the do's and the don'ts of medical information and its disclosure to the media. He's a moron.

Absolutely fire him.  Hire somebody who is going to turn the clubhouse culture around.  Someone who will make sure that the rest of 2012 is fun; thereby preventing the current culture from spilling into 2013.

My first choice would be Kevin Millar.  Who cares how 2012 finishes.  Just go out there and have fun.  Maybe that way , players will report to camp upbeat and optimistic in 2013.

i agree, drewski on hiring just a fun element guy for the rest of the season, or even naming Jerry Royster interim manager, just to change some of the atmosphere. I mean, you got players literally looking at the morning online newspaper to see what bit of BV news is going to reveal something not supposed to be revealed to the media. Full disclosure is not a necessity. Having the backs of your players IS A NECESSITY IN A MANAGER.

BV was probably asked why CC came out of the game early and answered the question. It appears that he needs another cortisone shot in the wrist. No story here since CC volunteered much more information about his health than BV did. Another "much ado about nothing" by Cafardo and Dannycater.

CC was clearly upset that this came up...that's not having the backs of your players...If you can't understand that he has spent most of the season undermining his players to the media, then you don't comprehend very well.

Information asked, information given by both BV and CC. No story here. Most of the forum should be pleased since they are always demanding information.

They won't fire him because then they would have to admit they were wrong about him. It would be a sign of weakness. So instead, they will keep pretending that he's a good manager and that the Sox are still a playoff team.

    Sigh.

[QUOTE]bobby V is not the problem.....neither was francona.....the players just arent producing at the level they should be....the team has had some injuries, sure....but the team has enough talent to be better than what their record shows....bobby V hasnt harmed this team in any way....it isnt his fault that the pitchers are pathetic.

Its a culmination of things, in my opinion.  Papi's comments that the team isnt fun to play for.  The look on Lesters face everytime they show Lesters face.  Becketts attitude.  Pedroia undermining Bobby at every turn.  This recent thing w CC.  The thing from the early season w Youk.  People running to MGMT regarding the Middlebrooks comment...

Its unfair to blame Bobby for all of this, and Im not.  But , the fact remains that the players arent having fun, and it shows in their sporadic play.  Its completely unfair to Bobby, but he must go.  They need a drastic change in culture, so the drama doesnt spill into 2013.

Give me a break. So he's supposed to lie to the media about it? Why would CC be so upset about it? it's the truth. So what if his wrist is sore and so what if the media and the fans know about it.
Please tell me what you think the problem is.

Re: Your Favorite Manager DID IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

Carl Crawford probably wishes Bobby Valentine hadn’t mentioned that the outfielder’s surgically repaired left wrist was sore Sunday and that’s the reason he came out of the 14-1 win over the Indians in the fifth inning.

Valentine tried to temper the situation by saying the wrist is not a big issue and that Crawford was taken out for precautionary reasons so the “minor issue” would not become a major issue.

Crawford seemed annoyed that his manager volunteered the news to the media. “He did?’’ said Crawford. “What did he say?”

When told what Valentine said, Crawford acknowledged, “Yes, it was a little sore today.”

Asked whether it was a concern, Crawford said, “Maybe it’s a concern to him since he brought it up to you guys.”

Crawford is surprised that Valentine responded to reporters questions as to why he was taken out of the game early? Why? A normal question and the proper response.

Note that Cafardo used the words probably and seemed which are quite subjective.

Yes it is a concern to BV, the FO, and to RSN that CC has a sore wrist again and will need a cortisone shot. Is that unrealistic?

I think you guys are missing the real people who are at fault here...

In an ideal world, it shouldn't matter that Valentine supplied that information...if anything, it's good, because I would be worried why Crawford left the game and it's good to know he has a legit but hopefully minor issue.

The problem is that we don't live in an ideal world...Crawford has spent the past 1.5 years as a whipping boy, and I think his reaction is the result of wanting to avoid more criticism (even though this shouldn't cause him to receive any criticism). So in his attempts to protect himself, he's annoyed at the manager.

But who's really at fault? The people who lay out the criticism in the first place...the media! If Crawford hadn't had so much negative press leveled upon him, he wouldn't care that Valentine sought to keep the fans informed, and this would be a non-issue.

I don't blame Crawford for being defensive...and I don't blame Valentine for not going the Bill Belichick route. I blame the media for their efforts to keep the black cloud over our heads no matter the circumstances...

Hot streak? He was 2-17 before yesterday's slaughter of a AAA pitcher.
You watch 14 runs scored and it makes "most runs in MLB" seem hollow, after contantly not hitting in close or extra inning games.
These guys are really tough in garbage time.

red, i'm glad you brought up Belichick. Francona was very good about not volunteering every iota of medical information about his players. Belichick went the nth degree by simply stating whatever he felt the NFL and media should know, sticking to the actual rules of injury notification by Sunday's games and not going out of his way to help the media know if Tom had a bad shoulder or the flu. BV says everything as if he's still working for ESPN. It's not a good environment, it's not about being honest, it's about knowing your players and their issues and dealing with them man-to-man rather than man to media back to man.

mclefty, totally correct on the Sox offense. A rare outburst of 14 runs, but enough to last a week of lousy 2 or 3 run efforts and 5 more losses so that the statistics will show "Sox lead AL in extra base hits and runs scored!!!"....

Re: Your Favorite Manager DID IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

The main reason Francona never brought up EVERY "IOTA" of information is because he had no clue of ANY "IOTA" of information not because he tried to "Protect" these Million dollar babies from the big bad press !! Maybe they should change the name of the team to the Red Riding Hoods ?? As far as BB discussing his players injuries I would think it's pretty obvious why a Football Coach would not reveal to the team, they're about to play, any weakness his team has in order to keep the other team from targeting that. If Crawford is Really upset with this then he truely needs a Shrink in the worse way.

Don't know why this is an issue. The issue is Bobby seems to rub his players the wrong way. For that he needs to go.
