    your top 5 favorite sox players on 2011 team

    not best -just favorites that you root for & why

    5. Bard - unpredictable but filthy, so filthy that its almost dirty watching him
    4. Ellsbury - Im so old I remember on one hand Sox guys who could steal and generate runs...I appreciate him and enjoy watching him cover ground
    3.Dice K - There I said it, I enjoy his mysterious Japanese ways and refusal to give in to anyone...he also truly suffers when he plays poorly (take note Lackey)
    2. Pedroia - I wish they could clone this guy  -I remember some clown on BDC predicted this guy would be the sausage king of Fenway and soon retire to vending biz because he sukked...idiot
    1. Beckett -i love the way he growls to himself after pitching a perfect inning - even more than that, whenever there is a beef w/anyone, he is the first to be have someone's back...the perfect teammate IMHO

    Definitely Pedroia the Destroyah. And you've gotta love the way Jed Lowrie has played so far. I'd say Papelbon over Bard so far, because he's looking like a closer should so far. Beckett for sure, we need that guy as the ace of the staff. Lester is a very nice pitcher, but the Beckett who always gets the ball in big games is the anchor of the rotation. My other two votes go to the new guys, Gonzo and Crawford. Gonzo, because he's starting to look like the guy we thought we were getting, and Crawford because he hasn't made any excuses about the way he's started and I know he's going to hit, and give us gold glove defense in left.

    1) Youk (has finally calmed down a bit after Manny set him straight)
    2) Papi  (really #1, but Youk is still going strong)
    3) Pedey (guts & glory)
    4) Beckett (Still the man)
    5) Lester/AGon

    This is harder than I thought.  Since I am a fan, I like all the players.  But I will give it a shot, and in no particular order.

    Lester - Because of all the adversity he overcame to get to where he is now
    Wakefield - For years of service, the ultimate team player on and off the field
    Varitek - He is the captain for a reason
    Cameron - I liked him when he was with the Mariners as well
    Ortiz - For being clutch so often over the years

    1. Wakefield: I respect what he's done for the Red Sox in his years in Boston. He's done whatever was asked, and he's a good guy off the field. Guys like that should be ones you root for.

    2. Ortiz: As fizsh said -- for being clutch. Also being a great personality and you gotta love the power when he's hot. I hope he has another 30-100-.280 or better year and comes back next year.

    3. Pedroia: I was a second baseman so I've always rooted for most of the 2B that the Sox have had. That he's not a big guy and I'm just 5-8 myself, what's not to root for.

    4. Beckett/Papelbon: In their respective roles, when they're on with the power pitching, they're nasty. It's fun to watch.

    5. Varitek: Even though he went to the H.S. that was my H.S.'s top rival -- Brantley scks -- I always root for the veterans.

    That's really tough...in no particular order, I'd probably say Ortiz, Beckett, Youk, Lester, and Pedroia.

    What puzzles me is why do some Sox fans hate certain players. Criticism is one thing, but hate? Actually root for them to fail and give no credit when it is due?

    Carl Everett was probably the one player I "hated" (to use that term). I rooted for him to do well because I wanted the Sox to do well, but I was so glad when he was gone.

    You had to love the curly headed boyfriend comment about Shaugnessy though.

    I never liked "I'll pick up the ball when it stops rolling" Mike Greenwell.

    He bugged me.

    Sorry, I know this will upset many fans, but it's the way it is.

    Ditto that, Roy.

    Impossible to pick five, but here goes:

    Pedey - for obvious reasons;
    Youk - for his toughness;
    Beckett - for the 'tude;
    Ells - for the jets;
    Bard - for the cheese; and
    Jed (yeah, I know, that's six) for his stick-to-it-iveness.  I always thought he had the stuff.

    Favorites to come: Crawford and Gonzalez - must pay their BoSox dues first.

    1. Ellsbury (Very disappointing, but great flash and style points)

    1. Lowrie ( Very fragile physique, but good utility player)

    3. Wakefield ( Washed up, but he's such a good guy and had a long career)

    4. Varitek ( Welcomed back up role & such a good guy and had a long career)

    5. Crawford ( Embarrassing start, but a quiet hard working guy who cares)
