I am confused as to why you're misrepresenting the stats.
Before Today, Wake had an ERA of 4.20 in 15 inn.
Today so far he's gone 6 IP w/ 3 ER bringing the total to 10 ER in 21 IP = 4.29.

So either I'm missing something or you're lying.

And by the way, 4.5 is what we should expect from Wake and that's pretty decent for a #4 pitchers.

UPDATE: and don't forget the 5 Ks in 6 IP.

If you're basing your angst on Wake having a spring ERA > 5, then you are a silly silly boy or girl.
His Spring ERA is < 4.30 and he pitches the same year in year out.
    He's fine.
    The Red Sox are fine.

Try and enjoy the season instead of getting so mad at Theo, who's actually a pretty good guy.

I have to agree. Wakefield and Tavarez back to back is definitely shaky. It also forces #1 pitcher, Schilling, into an almost "must win" situation to stop the slide. I don't like Wakefield as a starter anymore. I think he has become less than a .500 pitcher and if his stats suggest the contrary, remember he had great run support last year and the year before. I think he is quickly going south and Tavarez is on his best day a crap shoot. Combine this with dismal 6 - 9 hitters in the line up and we may be lagging dangerously behind by Memorial Day. I would hope Inepstein is not finished preparing this team for Opening Day.

Look, I happen to love Lowell and I think his defense at 3rd helps this infield immeasurably. While trade talks this past winter often included Lowell, I was firmly against trading him. At this address, we call him "Money" Lowell because of his play on the field.

That being said, his second half last year was not great, and he just hasn't hit when its counted this spring. I know you can't have an All Star at every position, and I can certainly forego bat production because of his defense, but the fact remains that Lowell, Tek, Crisp and Pedroia hitting 6-9 could be seen as a definite breather for opposing pitchers. That is my true concern, not dumping on any one player (especially Lowell).

ok..so we know someone has not been taking his meds....Wake has only been the rock of the red sox since he has been here. He has done whatever has been asked of him... a consummate professional. And dont worry he will give us 180+ ininngs of solid quiet workman-like performances

Gimpy529, I am worried you are going to have a stroke at this rate. The season hasn't even started yet. Relax........go into a zen state. None of this matters. Only what happens on the field. The season will tell all.

" Great if it were to happen, but his woeful record this Spring makes be think he hasn't found that magic again?"

    You mean his 4.29 ERA ;10 ER's in 5 games;2 BB and 15 K's? THAT woefull record??
Granted thats the worst of the Sox starters, but it's hardly "woefull" compared to some of the other #4 starters out there.

After we sign Roger, I'll have to come up with my "All I want by the trading deadline is........", to be followed by my "All I want for October is........"

Since I personally don't see this happening, I don't think you will have to worry about what you want for Oct.

when he signs with the sox, he'll also be able to hang out with some guys his own age..........

Now that is funny. LOL But somehow I don't think his ego and Shillings would get along. Besides I have said this before and I will repeat it. I don't think he would pitch on a team against his friend Pettite, especially with the kind of hated rivalry the sox and yankees have. Plus he is friends with Jeter, Torre and Posada. He knows the club and he liked it there. And the fans liked him too. Not like the sox fans who wanted him out of there. And the yankees will pay mucho money for him. LOL I think it is either the yankees or the Astros. Just my opinion, of course.

"All I want for October is one more win than the Yanks so we can brag about it all offseason long after being knocked out by a lesser team AGAIN"

P.S. A five-game sweep in the Stadium would make it all that sweeter.....etc....

LOL gimpy.......we all have dreams. That is what is fun about starting a new season.

now now..what did I say about taking your meds??? Look at the body of work my undermedicated brethren...name a pitcher who has gone out every 5 days like Wakes? Pedro?...Please...where is he now??? oh yea...the DL...I will give you Schill...bloody sock...say no more...Wakefield has exuded class for 10 yrs...start, middle relief, close... and dont you EVER forget what he did against the yanks in '04...he may not have gotten the headlines or the glory but he had as much as anybody to do with winning that series. You want to bail on him for the end of last year ..so be it...bsail on the whole damn team then my friend...He was hurt no doubt..unlike manny huh?..oh and after his first game his era is 1.50...damn he sucks

Lester will be there when he is ready, replacing tavaras im sure. Hansack and Gabbard can do with some seasoning. Dont be so quick to throw away the old because the new seems so shiny. I have never claimed Wakefield is a hall of famer but a 4th stasrter that can give 200 innings and an era of @4.5...let him show that he cant pitch consistently anymore before you throw him out with the trash.
