    I can't believe it!

I can't believe that no one has posted this already! Coco Crisp has turned into a power hitter and already has more homers this year than the entire Sox team. How could they let him go? Didn't they listen to David Ortiz, who has begged the Sox to get another power hitter to bat behind him in the lineup. What they Hey was Theo thinking?!?!?!?!

Yes, I was kidding with this comment.

But I also wanted to get a plug in for Coco. I honestly expect him to outhit Ellsbury in 2009 -- higher average AND more HRs. But I still like the trade that Theo made, and only wish Coco well.

I think that Ellsbury will hit for a higher average, maybe 15 points, Ellsbury at .295 and Coco at .280. I think Coco may get 12 HR with a full time job and ELlsbury at 8-10 homers. Ellsbury is much more of a threat on the bases and they are a wash in the field. $ favors Jacoby.

I expect Ellsbury to hit .290 - .300 in 2009. but I think Coco might hit .300 - .320 in KC. And outside of Fenway, I could see Coco hitting close to 20 HRs (though I confess ignorance about the KC's ballpark and its leniency towards the long ball). And still, I think the Sox will be fine without that. As you say, Ellsbury is much more of a spark plug on the base paths. And so, if he CAN hit .290 - .300 I think the Sox offense will benefit greatly by his presence at the top of the order.

I liked Coco Also but the point is not what he can do for another team it's, what he didn't do for the Sox. He was a good player but hardly irreplacable and for a lot less. Coco will be a FA next Season and I look for him to have a typical Contract Year type of performance, which is, better then what he has been doing for the last 3 Seasons !!

    GO SOX 2009 !!

Jacobs E. may or may not hit better than contract-year Coco. But the club would be doing no favors to either of them by keeping Coco around. Jacobs E. wouldn;t be able to sink into a full time role (Whether he breaks through or never lives up to his potential, there is only one way to find out, and that is to pencil him in very night). And Coco's value would be much less if he was platooning again this year. While it sucks to be exiled to KC, I am positive that Coco and the Crisp fam are very thankful to the FO for moving him this year. And as for not getting value for him as some people have lamented, I guess the proof is in the pudding, but getting a young lock-down arm like Ramirez is seriously heavy. You can have the greatest rotation in history and still not win championships if your bullpen aint up to snuff (see Atlanta Braves).

Good luck Coco. Glad to see you with that pop back in your bat that you started to show in Cleveland.

Great points Spaceman...Also, getting Ramirez makes it possible to trade either MDC or Masterson. I wouldnt be opposed to seeing the latter go for the right price. Masterson is a great righty specialist right now with potential to be a dominant set-up man, but quality bullpen arms are pretty cheap (non-closers), so Masterson could be replaced next free agency and we have a bullpen that could get it done without him.

I like Masterson, but I would love to see him moved. Maybe something like Masterson, Lowrie, Hagadone for Stephen Drew. That would be pretty sweet.

Intersting trade idea. I'd hate to see Masterson traded, but for Drew, that would be, as you say, for the right price. And your proposal looks pretty fair to me. How about substituting MDC for Masterson, since Masterson is more versatile? Would you do that? Do you think Arizona would do that?
