Here's all you need to know about old Salty. The top line is Gregg Zaun last year. The bottom is Salty. They both stink. Whoop de doo. At least Zaun is decent defensively. Salty is no more "proven" than Buchholz. I'd rather keep the pitcher and make due at backstop for a year.[/Quote]

Would you care to compare Clay Buchholz's 2008 statistics to those posted by other pitchers?

Using your technique, Clay Buchholz was comparable to Baltimore starter Radhames Liz in 2008:

    Radhames Liz 17 GS, 6-6 WL, 84.1 IP, 6.72 ERA, 1.78 WHIP, 67 ERA+
    Clay Buchholz 15 GS, 2-0 WL, 76 IP, 6.75 ERA, 1.76 WHIP, 68 ERA+

Would the Baltimore Orioles choose Radhames Liz over Clay Buchholz?

Buchholz is nearly two years older than most of these other former top pitching prospects who struggled in 2008:

    Clay Buchholz 8-14-84 2-0 WL, 76 IP, 6.75 ERA, 1.76 WHIP, 68 ERA+
    Philip Hughes 6-24-86 0-4 WL, 34 IP, 6.62 ERA, 1.71 WHIP, 67 ERA+
    Homer Bailey 5-3-86 0-6 WL, 36.1 IP, 7.93 ERA, 2.09 WHIP 57 ERA+
    Nick Adenhart 8-24-86 1-0 WL, 12 IP, 9.00 ERA, 2.58 WHIP, 49 ERA+
    Ian Kennedy 12-19-84 0-4 WL, 39.2 IP, 8.17 ERA, 1.92 WHIP, 54 ERA+

Given the age differences, the trade value of Buchholz is roughly comparable to the trade value of most of those pitchers.

Bucholz is a Bum! He's a "one, no-hit, wonder".....there are quite a few of those. The remainder of his record speaks for itself.

Saltamachia was in the Braves organization and they are equally as good as th RS in their farm system. He would be a good add (although I would prefer McCann).

Bucholz as good as Lester? What are you smokin'?

Bucholz has a lot of talent but so did Rick Ankiel......and we all know what happened to him.

He doesn't have the "ice water in his veins" mentality......more like "deer in the headlights".

From a mental standpoint, I don't believe he can cut it. Better to get rid of him now, while he may still be a good return on investment.
