That was John Stephens. Ruined his knee playing flag tag football in the sand at the pro bowl. He would have been a great one...

You guys beat me to it. Ted Green's injury made you think twice before you raise your stick as a kid playing hockey on a pond.

But what about Tedy Bruschi? He wasn't on the field, but it was a very significant player getting a very significant injury.

And, hey, isn't there some big injury we can pin on Kurt Rambus? Johnny Most could have recalled some hatchet job that Rambus committed!

What about the time Drew Bledsoe broke his finger suffered during a MNF game in November 1998? This was significant for two reasons:

    1) Despite having three pins sticking out of his broken index finger, his subsequent gutsy performances in consecutive come-from-behind wins over Miami and Buffalo cemented his legacy as a resiliant, heroic quarterback who was able to overcome adversity. These comeback victories were arguably the best moments in his long, distinguished career with the Pats.

    2) The broken finger ultimately ended his season, and without him, their superbowl hopes were dashed. The Pats were forced to go with backup QB Scott Zolak in the playoffs, and were doomed.

    Two more recent ones:

Paul Pierce: either the stabbing or being carried off the floor in the playoffs this year but coming back.

Jon Lester's cancer? Not as dramatic for the team at the time, but quite story.

And Travis Roy should be on the front, not Brady. With Len and Reggie, that was the worst thing to happen to Boston sports. I remember watching that game with my brother and father. So sad, that kid is a true hero.

I would say Steve Grogan in 85, he got the starting job from bone brain Tony Eason then broke his leg only coming back when the game was lost due to the above mentioned Eason. Tons of crazy old memories/nightmares culled from this board.
