Arlen Specter: bought and paid for by Comcast
    Posted by Kevin on Feb 1, 2008 @ 19:22
    Specters Super Bowl Spoiler?

Its just two days before Superbowl Sunday, but Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Arlen Specter held a press conference today to rail against National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell. Specter is criticizing the NFLs investigation of the New England Patriots after it was discovered early this season that theyd taped the Jets defensive signals during games.

Is the recession over already? How else can one explain a U.S. Senator injecting himself into Super Bowl week to stir up an alleged controversy that the 4,500+ credentialed members of the press somehow missed. Spygate is old news. What happened to the tape is even more obscure news. Nary a word about the fate of the spygate tape was raised this week, until today.

This isnt just another shameless pol looking for free pub. This isnt about a bitter Philadelphia Eagles fan still smarting over the Pats Superbowl victory a couple years back. No, this is all about the NFLs battle with the cable companies over the NFL Network. Specter chose today, the day of the NFL Commissioners annual state of the league press conference. That is no coincidence. Specter is trying to publicly browbeat the commish on this Pats issue to gain concessions for his big campaign contributers from Comcast.

Its not often that a Washington politician is so brazen in their efforts to do the bidding of special interests. Usually, they just add some language in a bill before anyone notices. Thats how the game has been played in Washington for years. Arlen Specter raised, or lowered depending on your perspective, the bar for shamless pandering today.

Does he really think people will believe this is about spygate? I think old Arlen has been drinking too much of that Comcast Kool-Aid, hes under the impression that the public will be fooled. Not everyone is as slow as The Slowskys

I wonder if somebody at Comcast already has another check in the mail?

"I know, I'm paying $6 extra a month for it. So, if Specter is goingafter Goodell to make MORE money for Comcast, then he's barking up theWRONG tree.

So what concessions is he trying to gain?"

Yes, you're paying 6 bucks for it. The NFL doesn't want you to have to pay extra for it. They want it part of the basic tier. You pay stupid amounts per channel for dumb stuff like lifetime and other channels you don't watch. I don't have the breakdown here in front of me, but I've seen it. The NFL channel costs less per subscriber than channels on your basic tier cost that you'll never watch.

The NFL Network used to be on the basic tier (free). Then Comcast moved it to the sports tier. The NFL wants it brought back to being on the basic tier (free). You really are not very informed, are you?

That's what the whole battle is about. Google it, and read up, if you're so out of the loop, which I guess you are.

You're a rare breed of ####. Cheers! You take the cake. Not only do you not have a knowledge of what you are talking about in this discussion, you've pulled out the last resort of internet banter: spelling and grammar! Because when you just seem like an #### who knows nothing: at least you can point out a missing comma, or mistaken keystroke! Way to go!

"Just so you know, spelling and grammar are important: they can be thedifference between getting a project funded or not having it funded by,say, the NIH. A lot of the medications you take are funded in part bythe NIH at one time or other."

Well if that's the case: why have you mispelled the word "imply" and the pronoun "Giants"?

Actually I think I've got it. You're a republican diehard. Which is fine, I'm independant and vote republican on occasion. But really, just because he's Republican, doesn't mean he needs defending. Especially when you really are dead wrong. He is a Comcast sympathizer. Get over it.

I actually have a masters in English lit! What a waste of money it was. I ended up falling into IT. It was too much money to pass up. I could have been a school teacher, like my wife, whom I met in the Masters program. Or continued to the PhD and grinded that out. I chose happiness and money!
