What's your favorite independent coffee shop?

Almost every street in Boston is home to a Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks (or both!). But neighborhood coffee shops also have their own niche in our beloved city. We've put together a round up of some of our favorite small and independent coffee shops of Boston. Do you agree with our choices? Disagree? What local coffee shop makes your favorite latte? -

I'm in the burbs, but in Burlington, True North is a fantastic alternative to Starbucks. All pastries & food made on-premises and the coffee is better or as good as Starbucks. -

Flat Black is the best coffee by far in Boston. It's a bit more expensive but truly worth it. And it looks pretty too! -

What about True Grounds in Somerville? Way better food and coffee than Diesel and Bloc 11. -

Uptown Espresso on Columbus in the South End. Faye makes the best latte I've had in Boston. -

My favorite place is Cafe Verde.
It's in Lawrence, MA and is very new.
Here's a link: http://www.mycafeverde.com/
Everything is great (they have food too), but they are magicians with making Latte's! Well worth the trip into Lawrence. The atmosphere is great as well.
Highly recommend! -

Well, if you are tired of the same ole chains, and up on the No. Shore, you must try SOL BEAN CAFE in Middleton, near Richardsons.
Wonderful coffee, and teas and juices.
Great spot to meet your friends. Coffee is superb! -

I still miss the Coffee Connection in Harvard Square and their rocket fuel. One time my brother and I were in there loading up...then we went out for a run along the Charles.
"Hey, let's pass THAT guy," one of us would say; then we'd speed up and whiz by.
Now it's a SBUX, or was the last time I looked. Big downgrade. -

i work for Starbucks. I've worked there for 2.5 years, and KooKoo Cafe on Station Street in Brookline is my favorite FAVORITE cafe. I also prefer Espresso royale to the bux. -

i drink DD for possibly the stupidest, and most convenient reason. there lids have tops on them. i work downtown, and Pete's (before it closed) and Boston Common Coffee Co., have way better coffee, at the same price. unfortunately i've spilled (or dripped) coffee on myself one to many times. DD it is! -

Espresso Royale is the best. Great Americano's, wide variety of teas, pretty decent food and a eclectic crowd (not the normal Newbury St. crew). Been my favorite for over a decade now. -

KooKoo is great, I try to stop there whenever I'm in Brookline Village. Response to Re: What's your favorite independent coffee shop?:Second that KooKoo rec. Old world atmosphere with excellent, excellent coffee.

Taste Coffee House on Walnut Street in Newtonville. But yes, Boston Common and Flat Black are outstanding in their own understated way. But now, with this article, I have many more leads. Thank you all. -
