Horseneck Beach in Westport... It is over a mile long, with plenty of room to stretch out... It gets crowded near the snack bar and main parking lots, but it's only a 5-minute walk to solitude... Ample cheap parking... As a bonus, Westport Rivers Winery and Buzzards Bay Brewing Co are a 5-minute drive from the beach. Both are great places to stop for a drink after a day in the surf...

Also nearby is the Back Eddy - a typical seaside bar/restaurant offering decent beer. The food is overpriced and average, but the location can't be beat... On the other side of Horseneck is The Bayside restaurant: Great location, average food, and quite possibly the worst service in the state...

Too many rocks and the water is cold and rough at Horseneck. It's not a bad beach but no way a top 10 beach in New England in my opinion.

It would be nice if it were easier to get to a lot of the beaches mentioned, especially the N. Shore beaches. The parking fees are completely outrageous and unjustified. $25-30 to go to the beach and not a single barrell to toss out any trash you might have? No thanks.

I like Nahant.  I imagine many here will find fault with this choice, but the crescent shape and the sphinxlike island offshore (Egg Rock) somehow make it more spiritually evocative than other local places.  And it has better exposure to easterly swell than most other north shore beaches, and I appreciate the contrast between the Hopperesque warren that is Lynn and the natural beauty of the ocean.

If you are looking for fun in the water, Harbour is one of the best for you.  If you looking for sunrise, sand hills, sunset or lengthy taking uses a seaside - go to Competition Factor or Shore Secure.
