Re: What's your favorite ski area in New England?

I like Bolton Valley best because it is affordable (season pass), has excellent terrain, family-friendly, and never gets crowded.  It's perfect for people who have kids AND like to get in a few challenging runs.  The crowd there is nearly all locals and I think it's one of the great underrated resorts in NE.  You won't find any fancy amenities there but I don't really dig on that fancy stuff.  I live close to Bolton so this is, admittedly, a factor.  If I were an out of state visitor looking to "blow it out" for a weekend or winter break I'd go for either Jay or Mad River Glen.  Like Bolton, these places get good snow and have great "Vermonty" terrain.  I have also heard great things about Bromley and Burke but do not have any personal experience with these mountains.

For me, regarding bang for the buck and uncrowded slopes in has to be Saddleback. Yeah, it is a total sledders town, but the last time I was there I got 4 nites lodging and skiing for less than $300.

I can tell you Attitash has gone down in both snowmaking and grooming.   Don't know why but for $70 a weekend day it should be better.

Bromley is in southern Vermont, just outside of Manchester.  It is a wonderful mountain, with lots of sunshine (south facing), no crowds, great trails, and the nicest people you will ever meet.  I learned to ski there when I was in college and miss it.

Agreed.  It is a mess.  I have a condo there but drive to Bretton Woods.

A couple of years ago I would have gone with Stow, but have really been liking Okemo the past two seasons. For a little change of pace check out Magic on a powder day.

Did you change the brackets from last year? It looks the same. It's bound to come down to Jay Peak-Sugarbush v. Sugarloaf-Stowe in the Final Four. Just like last year. Why not shake up the brackets based on last year's results?

In a perfect world, 1 and 2 is a toss-up between Sugarloaf and Stowe with maybe Stowe holding the edge due to snow quality and quantity.

Cannon and Bretton Woods should both be in the 'Bode' bracket.

There's a funny story about Bode and those two resorts... you should hear it first hand, ask a reg at Cannon for details.

Waterville Valley- love the pricing and the traffic guy at the White Peaks Quad.

But seriously, Stowe is the premier resort. Skiing at the Spruce side of the mountain is just like skiing Loon midweek.

    Okemo,

Great all around mountain. One of the best snow condition mountains in the east (great snowmaking). Great family environment with a real town with lots of restaurants. Hard to find steeps, but there's no perfect mountain. Relatively quick ride from MA, CT, and NY
