PAY ATTENTION TO THE RULES, DUMMY! Read the current TSA rules and be prepared. I do not enjoy watching the TSA agent digging through your carry-on to find the 12 oz. bottle of shampoo you had to bring. Wear shoes that can be easily slipped back on, and take off all your metal watches, rings, belt while you are standing in the middle of the line.

If visiting family, ship your clothes in advance. The best time saver is to pack light and avoid checking a bag. It avoids the Baggage Claim hassle.

One great way to save money when traveling (weather permitting) is to forego the cafe tables, buy picnic ingredients fresh from a market and eat a meal "al fresco" on a bench in a park, garden, or along a scenic area (like the Seine in Paris). Our rule is: the more time you spend outdoors, the less you spend on meals!

I travel with 4 kids aged 8-18. Plan and negotiate the trip in advance with them. Send kids links to the relevant information on the web, for example, about Lake George family vacation ideas. (Actual destination for July 09)

They will either buy in, reject out of hand or ignore, in which case they have less right to complain. In theory, at least.

Much better then trying to get them to read a travel guidebook. Or any book.

Went to Amsterdam for a week back in May.. Real cheap, had a 5 star (Barbazon Palace) for about 80 bucks a night.
