Why did the Globe disable the comments on several stories? Stories that have relevance with recent happenings in Malden such as layoffs in the Fire Department and a fire where people were rescued? -

WardWatch---same reason they never asked where this city
Administration was yesterday and than the herald could not
make contact with the Mayor /> the two reporters who suppose to
write about Malden are in the back Pocket of the Mayor it is
embarrassing what happened yesterday at that fire thank God
no one was killed--two police put their lives on the line to save
people and not one thank you From this City. -

WardWatch, I have noticed that when the story about the fire first popped up we could comment, there were I think 3 people that commented at the time, about 2 hours after that it was disabled...I wondered why myself... -

Youdidmwwrong----The mayor staff stopped the postings, where
was he Yesterday ---where was the Ward Councilor not in sight,
ever ask why? These two police officers are heros and should of
been recognize by either making statements to the press but both
the councilor and mayor could not be reached for comment.
When will someone be heard talking about how brave these police
officers were, lets all say thank you to them:

I know I commented about the fact that those two police officers most likely would not have suffered smoke inhalation had there been enough trained/employed Malden firefighters on hand. -

The fire is one of the big stories, I think we should have the opportunity to comment on it, since we did lose a fire station..This is what channel 38 reported..
While inside the house, Malden firefighters said they ran out of water for 20 minutes. Fire officials said fireifighters that had come in from other cities to assist unknowingly hooked up hoses to a broken hydrant. In Malden, broken hydrants are painted black in the front.
"Other firefighters don't know our color system," said Assistant Fire Chief Jack Colangeli. "If we would've had our fourth engine company this wouldn't have happened." -

Poorly maintained infrastructure and poorly funded public safety is not a concern of city hall. My poor car has had more allignment jobs than oil changes. -

I know what you mean...I would like to know how many fire hydrants do we have that are not working.. -

According to youdidmewrong black hydrants dont work. I have seen red and green too. What do those mean? -
Re: Disabled Comments

to all--the Fire Hydrants are suppose to be tested every year by
law either by the water /sewer division or firefighter while on duty (in between emergencies) but Malden has not done it in 3 years
because of the manpower/vehicle shortage.
But again not one Thank You From the Mayor or City Council
why------i was there helping wrap up hoses after the fire
what a disgrace: Where were their Faces or bodies to help? -

The Mayor and Firemen's Union should be ashamed.
Their inability to come to a compromise on the Health Insurance Issue has resulted in layoffs of much needed personnel.
Thus, creating a dangerous and perilous situation !!!!!!!!!!! -

Enough
This Mayor is no where to be found ---even when two police
officers were heroes he was no where on sight, we had a broken
hydrant--how many more are there in this city, why was not any
one laid off in City Hall . Again the basic question is Where was our
Mayor or his Staff ----absent without Malice.
Next time someonemight lose a life than who do blame? -

How are the fire fighters responsabale for the budget or the economy? If they are why only in Malden? Please explain why they should be blamed. -
Re: Disabled Comments

WardWatch--it not the Firefighters problem it is this Mayor, when
people risk their lives and this mayor and this City Council could
not say even a Thank You. Who is responsible for the Fire Hydrants
in this City and when were they last tested.
Final Question -----Where was the Ward Councilor on that
day/night ---not one word Why?
Seems no one is answering these questions? -
Re: Disabled Comments

Obviously, the Firefighters are NOT RESPONSIBLE for the current
state of the economy which is due to more National Issues
e.g. Wall Street Meltdown, Mid-East War, Housing Crisis and etc.
The City of Malden's Budget's deficit is due to (1)Cut-back of State Aid and (2) Mismanagement at the local (Mayor) level.
However, the Firefighters unwillingness to accept a small increase in
Health Insurance Premiums and CoPays along with a moderate increase in Deductibles has contributed to the Layoffs of their
co-workers.
I guess the days of looking at the Career of a Firefighter as a
"CALLING" are over. What a shame !!!!!!!
I wonder how their predecessors (World War II VETS) would have handled this situation.
I'M SURE WITH MORE CONCERN FOR THEIR FELLOW CO-WORKERS!!!! -

Enough---where do you work in city hall------not one person cut in
City Hall what makes them more important than our Police and the
Firefighters ---Just look at last Friday Fire who put their lives at
stake by going into burning Buildings.
Where was the Mayor On Friday --or his staff MIA AGAIN.

Hey Enough,
Is your job a "calling" or a job? Those days are long gone. Those WWII vets lived in Newland St Housing, which was originaly built for returning war heroes. How would they feel with you living there for free? -
Re: Disabled Comments

Yes andy I remember something about these housing developments being temporary housing for returning veterans. Not so much anymore. But that isnt important anymore. Those evil firemen should have to balance the mayors budget on their co pays and deductables. I have tried to do the math to see how much money we are talking about and the numbers dont add up. Did anyone else have better luck with their math? -

wardwatch----First the mayor had a way to balance the Budget
without cutting the Firemen and police but instead he took the
Payoff from Harvard Pilgrim Health Plan -----Now we have a New
Jobs Bills and lets see how he spends this money.
