Newton Election 2009 - What predictions do you have for the next month?

There is one more month in which people can pull papers and collect signatures to run for office.

Susie Heyman just bowed out of the Ward 5 School Committee race.  Last week, Deb Crossley just announced candidacy for the Ward 5 Alderman-at-Large race.

Ted Gross bowed out of the Ward 6 Alderman-at-Large race ...

Check out www.newton2020.org and see the latest candidate list.  Who else will join the race?  Who else will drop out?

    Any thoughts?

Re: Newton Election 2009 - What predictions do you have for the next month?

Prediction: Elections are rigged in Newton, especially with a low turnout. Candidates who win when the turnout is low do so because the "right" people are behind them, i.e. the PTOs, teachers union, and other special interest groups, opinionmakers, liberals and socialists. It's all about money. Prediction: expect more of the same: spend spend spend. Shake the money tree. Newton is a stepping stone for many people who move into Newton just to educate their kids, either living in subsidized housing or using their houses as cash machines. They don't stay very long. The wealthy opt out and send their kids to private school.  Get rid of METCO and educate our own kids. Prediction: that will not happen. We still don't know how much money it will take to maintain that monstrosity of a new high school once it is built. Will we get an answer from any candidate? Prediction: NO! Prediction: MORE OF THE SAME! I support implementing NewtonStat, etc. and several candidates say they support it. Prediction: Newton will never implement it. Accountability? What me worry?
