What would it take to get commuters out of cars and into trains?

A traffic surge is predicted on Route 128 with the expected growth in jobs and building development along the corridor. The highway is above capacity at 200,000 cars per day, and it is expected to increase to 350,000 cars over the next decade.

I'll tell you what won't get people on the trains.  Charging more.  Between parking and my T-Pass I am spending over $300 per month.  Raise that much more and I am going to start driving to work.  Rasie the gas tax by $0.50 to $0.75 per gallon, and cut the sales tax by an amount that will net zero change.  That will get people off the roads.
