We don’t have to tell you that it gets dark too darn early during the winter solstice, when the sun follows its lowest daily path of the year. The good news is that you can see constellations Orion and Taurus. The better news is “Winterlight: Stars and Symbols of the Solstice,’’ a stargazing show at the Museum of Science that will take you around the world and back in time. The show sheds light on the origins of holiday symbols, including evergreen trees and lights. Today at 1:30 p.m. (through Jan. 3). $9, $8 seniors, $7 ages 3-11. Museum of Science Charles Hayden Planetarium, Science Park, Boston. 617/723-2500. www.mos.org
