Hi! My name is David. I like listening to all types of music, especially rap. I became a vegetarian about a year ago and I like it.

David is a charming, handsome teenager who, at 16, still wants and hopes for a family of his own and a place to belong.

Of Caucasian and Latino descent, David can be quiet at first, but becomes more talkative as he gets to know someone. He is in 10th grade in a small alternative school where he benefits from the setting and earns excellent grades. He is bright and inquisitive and asks insightful questions. He lives in a foster home where he willingly helps out around the house and easily entertains himself in his free time.

David enjoys playing basketball, riding his bike, using the computer, and watching television. He is creative and good with hands-on tasks. He is thinking he might like to learn a trade in a vocational school.

Legally free for adoption, David prefers a mom and dad and believes it would be “boring’’ to be an only child. Other family constellations could also be appropriate. David continues to work through the losses in his life and he makes good use of the supports available to him. Receiving unconditional love and commitment from a family will certainly help him continue to make gains.

David has a lot to give and could realize his full potential with the guidance, structure, and predictability he would find in a family setting. His very special wish is to have a family who loves and supports him.

To learn more about David, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have “a permanent place to call home.’’

What is an adoption party?
Adoption parties are casual events designed to give prospective and experienced adoptive parents, social workers, and children in foster care an opportunity to meet informally.

Workshops provide prospective families the chance to network and learn from experienced adoptive parents. Family-friendly activities and entertainment offer children and prospective parents a fun, low-key way to interact. The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange hosts adoption parties four to six times a year throughout the state.

Learn more about the adoption process from parents and social workers at an informational program Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Blue Hill Boys and Girls Club, 15 Talbot Ave., in Dorchester. This will be a chance, too, to learn about the children who will be attending the Feb. 28 Adoption Party, also at the club. To RSVP, call MARE at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678).
