At first glance, immediately after giving birth seems like a vain time for a salon moment. Aren’t there more important things to do rather than put on makeup and style hair? Like, for instance, hold the newborn? But, as with all new-mother things, the saying is true: What’s good for the mom is good for the baby. And if Mom knows that the proud father, who is charmingly blind to the fact she may well have surpassed the recommended weight gain limit, her skin is blotchy beyond recognition from exhaustion, and she’s wearing a gown engineered to flop open at all the wrong places, is going to immediately post pictures of her on his Facebook page, then mom is justified in taking a moment to freshen up. Besides, in those few moments after the baby has gotten his first snuggle, while the nurses are cleaning and weighing him, but before the epidural and adrenaline have worn off, Mom deserves the kind of relaxing salon break she may not get again until preschool.
