Many of us had old-fashioned moms who kept the cookie jar filled with delectable treats and managed to raise a family, keep the house clean, work outside the home, and produce their own breakfast goodies and birthday cakes. When we remember what went onto the kitchen table when we were kids, all those homemade confections come to mind. Most were simple sweets, made so many times by these women that they memorized the ingredients and how to put them together. They got recipes from other women in their family or their circle of friends, from the backs of packages, and from local newspapers and ladies’ magazines. Were they that good or has nostalgia overtaken us? Yes and yes. They were that good and we’re filled with nostalgia. Thank you to all our moms for keeping us well fed.
