  1. My son will be 14 in May, he is an 8th grader. He is a nice boy, smart, helps around the house, is doing well in school. He is well liked by his school friends,
however, he only socializes with one friend outside of school, and has no desire to see anyone else. He is not into texting (except with the close friend), and has no desire to join Facebook. Is this within the realm of normal social behavior for a teen boy of his age? He is a somewhat shy kid as well. I guess I'm worried that he will have a hard time socially in high school if he does not have a strong group of friends. Thanks

  1. Jennifer, I have a similar situation with my almost 12 yr. old. I always have to suggest the socializing part. He's ok with it when I do, and he definitely has friends, but NEVER initiates any activities with kids outside of school. I don't think we'll get any answers from Barbara here in the Comment section, though.
