Nameberry.com has released a list of 13 hot baby names for the first quarter of 2013 and some of them may surprise you.
Here is the list: Marnie, Marlowe, Nelly, Mavis, Thor, Severine, Bruce, Wilder, Phaedra, Mingus, Linnea, Finnegan, and Christian.
Maybe you're not too surprised after all. That's because pop culture has once again had an influence on the names we choose, reports Nameberry. For example, some of these names are increasing in popularity because of popular books (ever heard of Christian Grey?), movies (think the vampire heroine Mavis in "Hotel Transylvania," voiced by Selena Gomez and Chris Hemsworth's Thor in "The Avengers"), and TV shows (Allison Williams plays a character named Marnie on HBO’s "Girls").
We combed through the adorable photos of your children you share with us every day and found that some Boston-area children were ahead of the trend on this one (these babies were born before January). The most popular name we found from this list is Christian.
Check out three local Christians below (left to right, newborn Christian (unknown town) sent in by Arthur, Cristian getting his first haircut sent in by Vanessa of Reading, and Christian the pirate sent in by Michael of Wilmington):
We're not sure if this little lion's full name is Finnegan, but Kirsten of Boston sent in this photo of Finn (right) dressed for Halloween in the Public Garden.
And, finally, while we didn't spot a Mavis, we did find a Boston cutie named Mavi (below) and just had to share her sweet newborn photo. Find out why her parents named her Mavi and tell us the story behind your child's name. Perhaps Mavi will help start a trend of dropping the "s" in Mavis and make next quarter's Nameberry list!
Did you choose a baby name from this list of 13? If so, tell us about it!
