Best family fun deal around Boston?
Boston is so beautifully multicultural... On the weekends, my husband takes the kids to the local library where they pick out books about a particular culture — guaranteed that that culture is represented in an enclave somewhere in the city. So we go there, to the local market or hang out and find ingredients to make the ethnic cuisine at home. The kids get a real feel for the different cultures in our city and the world, and it's pretty cost-effective, too.
Other suggestions?
It's fun and cheap to take the commuter ferry (pictured) from Boston to Hingham. The kids think it's a fun ride and we can sit and talk and see the sights. It's not meant to be a tourist trip, but it's great for that.
