Hallowoof, a Halloween festival and pet costume contest, will raise awareness for animal rescues and shelters in Rhode Island. There will be a costume contest, dog trick contest, pet/family photos, treat bags for kids, treats for dogs, pizza, and local vendors. Sun., Oct. 20, noon to 3:00 p.m. Woof! Woof! The Canine Promenade on the Charles River Esplanade is expecting to attract more than 100 dogs in costume this year. For the third year, pet owners will parade their costumed dogs around the park. After the parade, a panel of judges will award prizes for best costume and invite guests to provide helpful tips for dog owners. The event hosted by The Esplanade Association. The Halloween Pet Parade and Pumpkin Contest will showcase pooches and pumpkins. Meet at 1 p.m. in the West End for a pet parade. All pets are welcome. Pets will be judged in the categories of "Best Owner & Pet Combo," "Best Local Representation" and "Most Creative." Drop off your decorated pumpkin at the judge's table any time between noon and 1:30 p.m. to enter the Pumpkin Contest. Pumpkins will be judged for "Most Creative," "Scariest," and "Most Historical." Prizes include $50 gift cards to local restaurants and merchants. There will also be entertainment around Faneuil Hall, including street theater, magic, facepainting, card readings, music by TJ Taormina at 103.3, and more. At the Seaport Howl-o-ween Costume Party, prizes will be awarded for best dog costume, best owner costume, and best dog/owner ensemble. Your pooch will enjoy homemade organic snacks from Seaport’s culinary team while owners enjoy a cash bar and Halloween treats. The 6th Annual Monster Bark will offer a pet costume contest and "Monster March" in Stow. This family event will also include a coloring contest for kids age 12 and under, prizes, giveaways, and more. All proceeds go to Phinney's Friends, a nonprofit organization that helps low-income families keep their pets when going through hardships. Sun., Oct. 27, noon to 2 p.m. Costume contest is free. A Howl-O-Ween Costume Contest is taking place at J.M. Pet Resort. If you need doggy daycare this month, bring your pooch to J.M. Pet Resort on Tuesday, Oct. 29 dressed up for Halloween and he or she just might win a prize. The resort will take a photo of your dog dressed up and post it on its Faceboook page for its contest. The public will vote through Nov. 3. The winner, announced on Nov. 4, will win two free nights of boarding in a luxury suite at the resort. Tues., Oct. 29, 6 to 10 a.m. J.M. The inaugural Wingate Howl-O-Ween Pet Parade invites area pet owners to dress up their pets to win hundreds of dollars in prizes.
