This is the story of a special relationship between a little girl and a Chihuahua named Rikki the family found on Facebook. Rikki was up for adoption at the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

Rikki is different from most dogs because she has a deformity. But that didn't stop this little girl from wanting to take her home.

"I know most people would just want a dog who looks normal and everything," says the little girl in the video. "But I don't care how Rikki walks or how she is. It's just that she is so sweet and she needed a home and she's wonderful. And I wouldn't trade her for any other dog."

Are you thinking of adopting a pet this holiday season or giving a pet as a gift?

A new study by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals supports seasonal adoptions, though some shelters think folks should wait until after the holidays. Read more in this Associated Press story.
