Is politics going to the dogs in Texas?
A retiree named Mike Howard, who is unhappy with his political leaders, filed paperwork this week for his 10-year-old Westie named Dylan to run for mayor of Irving, Texas.
You can read this political pooch's point of view via his new Twitter account at @DylanWestie1. Howard tweeted this yesterday on behalf of his dog:
If money is the mother's milk for politicos, some Irving CC members should be committed to lactose intolerant rehab after tonight's meeting— Dylan Westie (@DylanWestie1) February 20, 2014

So would a Westie make a good mayor? According to the American Kennel Club, Westies have a "friendly, strong-willed personality."
We'll likely never find out. Howard doesn't expect the dog to be eligible to run. Without Dylan's signature or 60 registered voters backing him (he has 15), reports nydailynews.com, he won't make it to the ballot. Oh, and then there's the problem of finding a notary comfortable enough to sign on.
"I know it's a political farce," said Howard. "But I hope it will knock the scales off some people's eyes about the issues in city government."
