Take periodic rest stops to give your pet time to stretch and go to the bathroom.
Your pet should have plenty of comfortable blankets, extra food and water, and proper ventilation. Never leave your pet unattended, even for a few minutes, during hot weather.
Provide small amounts of food during these breaks but reserve the main meal for when you arrive at your final destination.
Cats should be kept in a carrier secured by a seat belt. Dogs can be secured with a special harness, which can be purchased at most pet stores, to prevent injury or escape.
