Twice a month, a Boston Globe photographer will choose one of you for a critique. Just e-mail us 5 photos, full-size and hi-res right out of the camera, and a paragraph about why you'd like a critique.

Perhaps you're struggling with composition, or how to shoot in low light without getting too much graininess. Maybe your portraits just aren't as elegant as you'd like. Or you don't have a specific thorny issue, but just want to get better overall.

Include your full name, town, and a phone number (for contact purposes only). E-mail your application to raw@boston.com.

And good luck!

  1. This is my first time, but I am sure it has a lot to offer, so am checking it out. I would like to show you some of my shots.

  1. Sure, Katherine ... just email 5 of your best photos to raw@boston.com, and in the Subject field, just put, "Globe critique." Thanks for the interest!

  1. When will this be starting?

  1. Can we just send you the links to the photos? I'd hate to have to compress them and lose all that quality.

  1. HI, Conor -- I'll change the entry above to reflect this: Sending high-res photos won't make a difference because we view them on a PC, where the screen resolution is only 72 dpi. So sending 300 dpi, for example, won't make a difference. If you size all 5 of your photos at say, 800 pixels wide and 72 dpi, you should be able to send all 5 in one email.

  1. Are these still being done twice a month? Looks like the last one was well over a month ago. I'd like to apply but don't want to take the time if this is being phased out

  1. Hi, John -- yes, they are. We were doing them once a month, then went to twice a month because they are so popular. I have one in the pipeline, but I've been out of town. I'll get it posted over the weekend. So yes, please send in some stuff to raw@boston.com. Happy to have it!

  1. Hi Teresa,

Am I reading this right: "right out of the camera" - meaning no post-processing?

I absolutely LOVE these critiques ... wish you could do one a week. For me, it's a great way to learn and develop the craft...

  1. Hi Michael ... no, I meant don't resize it. You can do whatever post-processing you want to make the best image you can.

Yes, I also wish we could do these once a week, but unfortunately, the Globe photo staff isn't able to do it that often. They're now shooting not just for the paper, but also for Boston.com, and many of them also shoot video for the site. So they're quite busy, and we're lucky to get them twice a month when we can.

  1. I sent in some photos about a month ago how long does it usually take for the critique to go up, and do all entries get chosen for critiques.

  1. It looks like it has been over a year since the last critique was given. I find these critiques to be so helpful - are there plans to resurrect this RAW section?
