Apply for a Globe critique

Posted by Teresa Hanafin, Boston.com Staff July 31, 2008 12:24 PM

Once a month, a Boston Globe photographer will choose one of you for a critique. Just e-mail us 5 photos, sized at 800 pixels wide and 72 dpi, and a paragraph about why you'd like a critique.

Perhaps you're struggling with composition, or how to shoot in low light without getting too much graininess. Maybe your portraits just aren't as elegant as you'd like. Or you don't have a specific thorny issue, but just want to get better.

Include your full name, town, and a phone number (for contact purposes only). E-mail your application to raw@boston.com.

And good luck!

  1. Sure, Katherine ... just email 5 of your best photos to raw@boston.com, and in the Subject field, just put, "Globe critique." Thanks for the interest!

  1. Can we just send you the links to the photos? I'd hate to have to compress them and lose all that quality.

  1. HI, Conor -- I'll change the entry above to reflect this: Sending high-res photos won't make a difference because we view them on a PC, where the screen resolution is only 72 dpi. So sending 300 dpi, for example, won't make a difference. If you size all 5 of your photos at say, 800 pixels wide and 72 dpi, you should be able to send all 5 in one email.

NOVEMBER'S THEME Silhouettes

Convey emotion, set a mood, or create an air of mystery ... silhouettes can convey a lot in a handful of pixels. It's a challenging theme; position your subject in front of a light source, and expose for the light. One rule: Your photo must be taken this month.
Deadline: Midnight November 30
